I need help with an issue on the climate controller in my 2002 4runner with manual climate control. There is no auto button. When I’m running the heat, everything works fine and then randomly it will start blowing cold air. If I cycle the temperature knob back-and-forth a couple of times, it will go back to blowing warm air. The same thing happens when I run the air conditioner. The AC works fine and then all of a sudden it will start blowing warm air. If I turn the temperature knob back-and-forth a few times, it will go back to blowing cold air. I have the manual climate controller. I see several people have made repairs to the automatic climate control controller, but I’m not sure if that applies to the manual. Any suggestions on what might be going on? I am thinking I just need to replace the climate controller, but I’d like to see if anybody else has ran into this.

Sounds like a climate controller or blend door not operating properly.

Instead of throwing parts at it I took it to a mechanic and he couldn’t duplicate the issue over a 2 day period he said. As soon as I picked it up and drove it for a couple of miles the problem showed up. I think I will start with the controller and see what happens.

When I was working at Toyota dealership I used to put that in the notes, because I couldn't really duplicate customers concerns everything was working fine at that moment lol.

I would take it apart and see if anything can be fixed/cleaned.

On my 05 Tacoma the connector was burned. It's pretty common on Tacoma's.
