Hey everyone, I thought I would put this thread together outlining what I did to clear Yokohama Geolandar G003 35x12.50x17 on SCS 17x9 -38mm wheels. I did hours and hours of research/speaking with people to get the formula that worked for me to clear these tires on my 4Runner. I did not re-gear but honestly coming from a 295/70/17 of the same tire it does not feel much different, I do plan on re-gearing in the near future to a 4.56. I have been monitoring trans temps and I have only seen over 200 degrees one time in 500+ miles with these tires including many hills here in GA, I mostly keep it in 4S (Sport mode) and only manually upshift to 5th above 70 mph (which is rare) and when it is flat. Admittedly I mostly did 35s for the look and because I do not commute much (full remote job), the 295/70/17s were plenty capable off-road. I am averaging mid 15s MPG wise (combined) with low 16s MPG with primarily highway driving. I am hoping putting all this information together on one thread will help people looking to make the switch to 35, I know I would of appreciated it in my research!

    Relative Parts/Info:
    Yokohama Geolandar G003 35x12.50x17 Tires
    SCS BR6 Wheels 17x9 -38mm
    Dobinsons Standard Front/Rear Shocks
Dobinsons C59-302 Front Springs (2.5" Lift)
Dobinsons C59-325 Rear Springs (2.0" Lift)
Cornfed 0.5" Front Strut Spacers (1" Total lift)
    Toytec 1" Body Lift
*I achieved roughly 4" Front/ 3" Rear total lift with all methods combined*
    JBA Upper Control Arms
    Front bumper cut
    Body Mount Chop
    Pinch weld flattened
Front fenders trimmed (https://tinyurl.com/a3zhh9f9) This is optional, I did it to achieve more clearance and be able to use the 35s flexing the suspension off-road. My thought process is either commit or stick with 33s, unless you don't go off-road that is.

Thanks for posting this. I want to waste no time with smaller size tires and jump straight to 35s when I get my T4R. Your thread will help me see what kind of work I’m in for.

That seems to be the experience with the few other people that have done this.

I don’t think you’re going to like it very long without rehearing it.

Also, how is the steering mechanism handling all that extra weight? I know that when I was running steel wheels with some meaty 285s, it was starting to act unhappy.

Doesn't feel any different than stock to me steering wise. I didn't buy the 4Runner for speed or quickness, it was a turd stock and it's still a turd now so the gearing doesn't really bother me. I would only re-gear for off-road performance which I am going to do. But what doesn't bother me may bother others. Again, it doesn't feel much different than the 295/70 I had on there. The 35" version (currently equipped) of the same tire is only 4 pounds more and 1.2" bigger, so it takes away from the gearing a bit but not much.

Looks great. If it weren’t for the miles I put on mine as a daily driver, I’d make the jump.

    Great info :)

Do you think this could be achieved without the 1” body lift ?

Can take a picture of the body mount area liner. From the pics, looks like the liners are fully removed ?

how about the rocker edge panel ? Is this permanently removed ?

Majority of the people I have spoken to with 35s have a body lift, I have seen some that don't though.

Fender liner is completely removed, when you cut the fender the lip that has about 6 fender liner clip holes is removed. I would say that's the biggest con to cutting the fenders. I'm still trying to think of a way to incorporate something fender liner wise in there, I know if a few ways to do it with a plastic /rubber type material but it's making mounting points for it that could be a challenge.

The rocker cap is still there just essentially cut in half.

Any trimming needed with the 295s?

I previously had 285’s and trimmed & push the bumper ~ 1”. With 295’s I had trim additional 1/4”. Also have bmc.

Looks awesome! Let us know how it performs off road.

Also, what’s your clearance from the bottom of your differential?

No. Check out tinkerers adventure on YouTube. He has a really good video explaining diff drops and why you don’t need them.
