Six guys. Three trucks. Left SD
Thursday midday for a night in Laughlin. Woke up Friday, checked out, filled up the tanks and was on the trail by 9am.

Unfortunate start. Got caught doing 80 in a 55. Cop was cool enough. Wrote me up for 60.

Sleeping set up. I built a small platform last year to level out the back. Brought a cushion from our outdoor couch that fits perfect.

Hit the worst traffic jam I’ve ever been in an hour from home. 3 car crash. Wrong way driver. Double fatality. RIP.

Great trip. So much to see in this area that we didn’t get to this time. Perfect weather! Mid 40s at night. Highs in the low 80s in the desert. Cooler at elevation.

Highly recommend if you’re into camping. I’d still rather do a week in baja but the surf is crappy these days so the desert was a great alternative.

We went in August 2021. It was…….a bit warm. Good trip, although that was also when I decided to get proper suspension after (A) nearly peeling off my rear bumper going to Camp Phallus and (B) driving on that washboard from Kelbaker Road to Soda Lake.

Did that back when it first opened. Started in Picture Canyon and ended before Camp Cady. Was one of the "pioneers" back when. I did it in my 83 FJ40 and a buddy did it in one of the first Toy p/u with 4WD. I remember taking a compass bearing to cross Soda Lake (ps: I did some grad work at the CSU Desert Studies Center at Zzyzx)

My 2019 SR5P at the Desert Studies Center a couple of years ago:

Did West to East last weekend and ended at the penny can. Lake bed was open. Heard the east side is still too rutted out. Other than missing the very east side, no reroutes were needed.
