Hello all, I am new here and to the 4runner world.. I just traded in for a 22 limited and I am looking at 285s (Falken Wildpeak possibly) and changing the 20 inch wheels for 17 inch wheels. Any ideas? I will need to lift it a bit I gather. Any ideas on other tires? Are there different lift options I should consider? Any advice would be welcome!

    Hello from SD and welcome!

You'll for sure need a lift before you can fit 285's. They will rub, so you'll have to get a body mount chop (BMC).
If you plan on lifting the front 2.5" or higher, you'll for sure want to upgrade your upper control arms.
There are plenty of aftermarket suspension options and tires out there. I would highly recommend you search on here for threads already created with all of this info listed :)

I have an ORP with Bilstein 6112/5160 (best bang for your buck IMHO) lift kit and 285/70/17 KO2's. If you got cash to spend, Kings is the Crème de la crème.

I'm sure others will chime in!

    Best of luck,

    Ed!

Hey fellas, I'm also new to the site. I do like the look of the Limited when folks put actual off-road wheels (17s) on them.

Quick question on the same track: I have a 2011 SR5 with Bilstein 5100 series to beef up the performance and to level out the ride (about 1.5"). I currently have 265/70/17 Ridge Grapplers. Any idea how big/wide I can go without additional lift? Might help JR as well.

No rub at full lock reversing? How often do you wheel?

Some on the inner back mud flap,... a heat gun took care of that. And i wheel, ..... a lot dude. Ill bet more than 99.9% on this sight. From desert zooming, rocks, mountains, Moab, and all in between (I live in Utah). Anyone that says YOU MUST get uca's if your lift is this, is wrong, and up selling. Period. Same with a BMC. Especially with 32 ish " tires.

And, i dont know the difference between a limited vs a pro, sr5, off road. But, i am saying beware of what someone behind the counter says, vs someone that actually knows what the fuck is going on. Watch some of Kai's videos, read some comments, and such, ...
Also, then giggle at those that spend worthless money,.... taking their rig to wallmart. (like those of us, out on a actual trail do)
That also said,.. why did you get a limited, if you wanna go beat on your rig? Just me, but the limited,.. aint it. To much plastic and other meh. But, hey, get your rig rolling how ya want it mate. And get out there. Cheers.

So truth is, it was a negotiation between my wife and I as we needed a third row. I always wanted a 4runner, inventory was low and this dealer gave me a killer price for my vehicle which had 90k miles on it. It was a win win for us and the family. It'll work. I spend a lot of time in West VA partaking in certain activities out there where off road vehicles are a must. I think the limited will work for what I need it to do. I need to do more research on its limitations if I decide to truly "off road". Thank you all for the advice.

Here's my Limited with 285/70R17 tires. I will be changing the Bilstiens to Ironman FoamPro Cell suspension soon. May be its will give me a better ride? Will post when they are delivered and installed. To me supricingly Limited was easy to trim to fit 285s than my TRD ORP. I have stock UCA too. I love the full time 4wd over the part time on "TRD Pro".:p So much easy to drive in wet / winter time / gravel roads. Don't be discouraged by some of the comments, not many know that from SR5 to TRD Pro we all have electronic diff actuator regardless 4wd selector type. I got Falken Wildpeak AT3W P285/70R17 because they were cheaper and soft. I don't need serios tires like LT rated BFG KO2 or Duratracs as I won't do that kind of wheeling with mine. So onroad / gravel friendly tires are my choice for my Limited.

    Finally,
Bigger tires & lift gave me so much better look, BUT I miss the onroad comfort with XREAS.

Nice! I'm jealous of where you're located lol. Socal has some cool trails, but nothing like Utah!

I needed to do a BMC because mine for sure rubbed. I did the BMC myself so no extra charge. UCA's aren't always needed, but I wanted something tougher than the stock ones for wheeling. Limited's will for sure need a lot of chopping!

Again, the upper control arm, does nothing for strength/brute force. The lower control arm is there for the vertical load, the uppper is to keep the spindle up right. Also, i thought the limited, vs any other runner, had the same body mount locations? Are they different? I didnt know that. I figured, they would be the same.
What UCA's did you go with? 99.9% use a OEM/stock ball joint anyway. (like the iron man system the guy above mentioned, which is a super, super rad system, but, it also uses a OEM ball joint, but does move the location of the ball joint, and, also allows larger shock diameter, vs oem).
Most change their UCAs because they go with a "wider" , or thicker shock, where the OEM control arms wont clear. But strength, is not a reason at all, to change from OEM ucas. At all. Go to the vid i posted, and if your only into what we are talking about, start around 13:30.
Yes sir,.. its awesome here!!!, i love it, the only issue we have in Utah atm, is were growing to fast, and getting to many people from California, and other areas, that are running from their ruined state, into mine, ..... my only hope, is they dont turn my Utah, into their california/washington. If and or when that happens, ill move. I wont live in a state like that. Happy adventures out there my guy. Get out there, and get dirty. Cheers. Great looking rig too my guy.

Idk what tires you're buying but most 285/70/17 are a couple tenths away from 33" if not slightly larger.

Definetly have to read the specs as not all 285/70R17 or 255/80R17 are 33in tires.

I really like the look of the TRD OR wheels on a limited! I put those on my 2019 white Limited with stock tires - no issues, then I put TRD Pro gray wheels on my silver Limited with stock tire sizes. The limited with the TRD Pro wheels I had to push the caster up to +3.8 to get good highway tracking (wandering issues) which then made them rub a bit in reverse. I did not have this issue when I put TRD Pro wheels on my TRD ORP. Moral of the story is the Limited with stock suspension does have different geometry and wheel offset is important.

    TRD OR Wheels:
    Wheel Size: 17×7.5″
    Wheel offset: +15
    Wheel backspace: 4.5″

    TRD PRO Wheels:
    Wheel Size: 17×7″
    Wheel Offset: +4
    Wheel Backspace: 4.5″

Thank you, I think it matched well with Silver. Also I love the wider TRD ORP wheels that are with in spec for 285s vs TRD Pro narrower wheels.

So what is the largest tire you can run on the Limited without complication? Can you run wheel spacers? What size?

I have been very happy with my Bridgestone Dueler A/T 275/55/20 on my 4WD Limited. They run very smoothly on the Highway. The image is after 30k of wear so the tread life is excellent if you rotate as needed.

    Hello Members,

One of my viewers asking if he should buy Stealth Custom Series Gen5 wheels 17x9 -38mm offset for his Limited (with a lift of cause). Is this off set doable with just trimming in front and remove mud flaps? No BMC?

Yes, I directly told him I have no experience with aftermarket wheels already. Like to know if anyone want to share their experience on this wheels please?

Just trying to help someone unknown with what ever I find from you all.

    Thank you..
