Ok got some rough numbers. First number is for 5th gen, second is for 6th.
    Trunk length: 37”, 43”
    Trunk width: 57”, 56”
    Back seating width: 59”, 61”
    Front seating width: 61”, 60”
    Front head room: 44”, 42”

I think we got used to the gmc Yukon size that’s why the 4runner feels small right now. We definitely miss the size but damn that thing broke down all the time.

How does the rear legroom compare in terms of total space between seats and seat cushion length?

Curious here too, but given the measurements above and my own sense of feel and visuals it’s definitely less.

I think they moved the second row up to make more cargo room in the rear.

hopefully we can get the measurements.

This. Also it depends on who’s driving. My wife is short so she moves the drivers seat forward quite a bit. I sat in the back of both with the drivers seat adjusted for me and the 5th gen felt more roomy.

It seems like a combination of moving the rear seat forward making the rear cargo area 6” bigger and making the hood longer which I assume is to fit the inline 4 cylinder engine vs. the previous V6. Robbing the back seat leg room seems like a poor decision. For my family the backseat gets used much more often than the rear cargo area.

I remember being told at some point when I was working for a tier one supplier that changing floorpan of a body is relatively expensive compared to changes ahead of or aft hard points in the vertical body panels. My bet is they had to allocate the rear cargo space for the hybrid's battery due to the vehicle being a Body On Frame and thus no space to put embedded in the floor/chassis like unibody vehicles' batteries. I don't recall seeing a dramatic hump like the 6th gen in Priuses, for example. A lot of Toyota hybrids have the battery under the rear seats and sometimes partially in the trunk, but those unibodies have more flexibility in battery placement.

They couldn't make the battery too tall, else the height would make putting heavy stuff in harder and also reduce cargo space. So it was more liveable compromise to eat into the rear seat space by a few inches to keep the battery flatter. And due to the cost of changing floor design, the gas version got stuck with the same compromise even though it has not large battery in the back.

Valid points. That’s why I’m keeping the 5th gen for my daughter. Technically I now have an 8runner

Ordered Ironmans chromoly upper control arms. Trying to decide on a lift kit. I gotta call them Monday and see what they actually have in stock. If nothing is available that I want I’m going to go with a cheap spacer lift for now and wait for more options.

I’m hoping to be able to swing keeping my 5th gen if/whenever I move to a 6th gen

The pre-2019 5th gens are such great platforms with less electronics to worry about when modifying, particularly on the front and rear bumpers.

OP where in the PNW are you located? I vaguely recall from my travels there are some nice logging and forest roads along the Columbia River that can put your rig through its paces once the suspension work is all done.

I’m on the west side of WA state. I go explore along the Columbia river quite often.

Also forgot to mention the 5th gen rear seats can be adjusted sliding forward and back but the 6th gen’s don’t have that option anymore. So you can slide the back seats to gain more trunk space. Another win for the 5th gen.

Nice. OME makes a quality looking product. Have never had the opportunity to experience their product first hand.

I ran OME on my Frontier and run it on my current Tundra. It was a no brainer to go with them again.

Do you mean reclining? Mine recline, but they don’t slide. Does yours have a third row? Mine does not.

Yes my 5th gen has a 3rd row. Maybe that’s why they have the slide option.
