Greetings Fellas. New member here. I am in the market for a late model 2023 or 2024. Have found a 24 Pro with 21,000 miles on it for $56,0000 and a 23 ORP w/o KDSS with 28,000 miles for $50,000. Is it me or are both prices on the high side? Being that these are the last of the gen 5 4Runner, if I don't take it they will have 2 or 3 people lined up behind me to jump on these so no room for negotiating? I have been looking at the new LC $70,000 for a 4 cylinders. GX550 Overtail, not sure it's worth $80,000 and the 6 gen 4Runner TRD Pro definitely not worth $73,000 and don't like all the shiny black and plastic. Only off roading I do is beach driving on OBX and guessing I can get a Wilderness model Subaru to do that. I only drive about 9000 miles per year.

They are high, but the prices fall in line with other 4Runners in your region that fit the same criteria. I thought $46.6k was astronomically high when I bought my 2023 4Runner (that was with the dealer discount). Seeing a used 4Runner for $50k + is shocking. But...prices have gone up for all vehicles. It's the world we live in right now.

As for which to get: It depends on how you want to or plan to use it. I'd vote for the ORP; but only because 99% of TRD Pro's I see, never leave the pavement. You're paying for extra stuff you will never use. The ORP with KDSS will do great on the beach and mid-moderate offroad trails.

Now, the Pro will have a better resale value in the long run (as you saw by the price). They depreciate slower than other models. I'm sure you don't care about that, just stating the obvious.

With the new engines failing out the door it's driving lightly used V6's up. And many just don't want either problem. That being a 4 cylinder or a failed engine. I think it's worth it for a 20k mile vehicle. And it could get worse.

It's worth what someone will pay for it in a timely manner. More important is what it's worth for you, just because there's another sucker doesn't mean you gotta eat that bullet. (and if there's two, three already raring to buy it would have been sold by now)

Assuming you're in US Dollars, a cursory CarMax search shows those prices aren't crazy, maybe a touch high?

I guess the next question is whether those TRD trims are worth the price over an SR5 or SR5P, or going older.

But for OBX duty, plenty of vehicles will do!

The 4-cylinders are not failing thus far.

OP stated ORP does not have KDSS. (regardless, on the beach fox shocks are better assuming ORP has not been modified)

OP, it really depends what matters to you. Off roading wise they are essentially the same (rear locker, crawl control ,etc...) Slight edge on the pro for the fox shocks but if that matters to you, you can spend extra money to put better ones on either truck. Mileage and year are similar so no stark advantage there

Other than look, some of the main differences with the PRO that the ORP doesnt have are: JBL audio, factory remote start w/ OEM keyfob, auto headlights, dual/auto climate control, possibly the sunroof and birds eye view (both standard on PRO and optional on ORP so you'd have to check on that yourself)

If none of these matter to your then save the money and get the ORP.

I agree with Stoney. I purchased my 23 in June of 24 and paid $49k. I did a 500 mile search and found it at a Ford dealer. 9 hour drive home, but saved $4000 over local.

Me absolutely avoid Lexus GX550 for its unreliable engine.

I don't really have trust on the 4cyl turbo on the LC / 4Runner / Tacoma even though don't hear catastrophic engine failures.

Both 2024 TRD Pro with just 21K miles and 2023 TRD ORP without KDSS with just 28K miles is a very tempting option to me. That's very likely the asking price for 2024 TRD Pro I see around here in Denver CO, around $50-55K. Last years on 4runner with low miles + no accident + 1 owner + good maintenance record sell at higher price.
    • TRD Pro is a good choice if you value automatic headlights, jbl sound system, automatic climate control.
    • TRD ORP without KDSS is a good choice (in my opinion) if one value a reliable option / less things to go bad. I would spend money to get suspension & tires for my choice.

    Searched near me -

Yep. Thought I was mildly getting ripped off buying 23 ORP with KDSS for the same price with everyone here talking about how they got their 21 or 22 for just over 40k.

If people keep signing up for those loans on these prices it's their choice. I'm just fine driving my older Toyotas but it's not for everyone, not everyone thinks the golden age of Toyota was the late 90s and early 2000s like I do.

Thanks for the replies fellas. The ORP has the Southeast package I believe it is called. Looks just like the Pro minus the basket rack. Even has a heritage grill. One other question. Will the non KDSS have the same on road driving characteristics as the Pro since Pro does not have KDSS. Not really interested in any other trims. At the stage in my life where I want something nice looking and simple without having to take it somewhere to modify other than window tint and wool wax undercoating.

Pro wont be as stiff mainly over bumps or bad roads with pothole because of the fox shocks (and maybe slightly more body roll on the Pro?) but overall fairly similar.

My 4Runner doesn't have KDSS and it handles all the mall curbs and Chick-fil-a drive thru's with ease!

We have a LX600, no issues with it, but we have less than 10k miles.

    Welcome.

You could probably search and in time find a better price for the same vehicle, especially if you expand your search radius. The questions are, what’s your time worth to you and how desperately do you need a 4Runner.

Dealers will always use the age old tactic that there are buyers lined up to buy a used car. If that were truly the case, it wouldn’t be sitting on the lot and they wouldn’t be talking to you.

You don't state where you live, but if you're going to shell out $50k+ for a 4R, even those that new, I'd be checking out the frame & under body for any rust issues first thing. Photos of those would be very telling.

I drive the beaches of the OBX. I bought a 2024 SR5P with 10k miles on it November 2024. It had cross bars and running boards. The only thing I did was upgrade to the Bilsteins 6112-front and 5160- rear and put the ORP wheels on. The Bilsteins really improved the ride on the beach and road. I felt like the ORP and PRO were not worth the extra money for my use.

You answered your own question on price. People are selling 2-3 year old Toyota SUVs for $50k because new ones are $70k.

Only problem with Subaru is the CVT isn't friendly for wheelspin, so you'd be more likely to get stuck in sand. You want something with a rear locker as a minimum, so 4R, Bronco, or Jeep Wrangler, and the 4R is usually the cheapest of the bunch.
