    It's been essentially the same vehicle since 2010, so most of the kinks have been worked out. I would expect it to be extremely reliable, extremely capable and extremely mediocre on fuel efficiency ;)

    Edit - this our third 4Runner (2006, 2016 & 2021) and none of them ever went to the dealership for anything besides basic maintenance. Just to give you an idea of what to expect!

    Got mine a few weeks back with 3 miles on the odometer. I may have drawn a short straw with regard to the front differential bearing, as it is making some noise. Hopefully it wont be a problem to get it warrantied, as the problem is not unheard of. Dont have much experience with toyota warranties...2006 Sienna, and 2018 highlander have both been flawless and have never been in for warranty work

    I just got my wife a 2021 Limited on Sunday. (test drive had all the tires inflated to 55 psi, drove like it was on rocks)
    Monday she bitched about the infamous driver-side spot with the LED lights.
    Yesterday it was the roar that the engine makes when it first starts when cold ("it's not right")
    Today she loves it. Good luck, man.

    I've had my 2021 TRD off-road for five weeks now, 607 miles on it with no issues other than being blinded sometimes in the morning with the hood scoop. I will have to look at blacking it out I guess.

    Dark Grey, don't know the proper Toyota term for it.

    Oh well, what can you do? You test drive and inspect it as best you can before buying, and hope for the best. Im hopeful that when my bearing is loud enough to take in (so they cant deny its a problem), that it will be dealt with quickly.

    I am disappointed a bit that this bearing has been a known problem for going on 10 years and it hasnt been redesigned...but it seems like aftermarket has stepped up to fix the problem in case this becomes post warranty issue.

    Hmm few small issues on mine.. yet to be addressed: Driver's seat motor shakes and makes noise when moving seat forward or backward; emergency brake was poorly adjusted from factory; *one* time my transmission "skipped".. no idea what happened but not super worried about it.. a bit unnerving though of course!; noisy a/c fan.. I think that's about it. So nothing major.. hopefully Toyota will take care of it all at some point in the future. Hope yours is flawless!

    EDIT: Oh, and I'm just *waiting* for the little gas cap leash to brake.. that thing seems very thin, brittle, and poorly designed lol.. but maybe I'm wrong and it'll last!

    7 months and 8,200 miles on my 2020 Off Road. Here are the issues I've encountered:
    • Slightly wheel shake sometimes, but I'm 99% positive it's the crater filled roads in the upstate of South Carolina. I swear it's like off-roading at Craters of the Moon National Monument;
    • My wife and middle daughter don't like driving it because it's too big for them;
      • This is actually a win for me, she (the wife) doesn't typically like driving my cars;
    • The stock Dunlops are not the best tire in the world, but they'll do for now;
    • All the stuff to make it how I want costs more (mild lift, tires, roof rack, sliders, armor, etc.);
    • Very few options for full front bumpers on the 2020+ models due to the TSS;
    • I should have bought the Off Road Premium with the SoftTex seats and seat warmers.

    Parking brake was laughably loose. Would not hold the vehicle back.
    Alignment was really bad from day 1. Had to hold steering wheel slightly left to keep the rig straight. Both fixed by the dealer. Service advisor couldnt believe how bad the toe was on the alignment and blamed it on when they strap it down on the boat and truck in shipping.

    Yup! But not what you may be thinking. Now, if waiting on vendors to fulfill orders is an issue? We got issues:rofl:

    All in jest. Those that are backlogged make that fact perfectly clear before an order is placed. Glad they're busy!

    The leash on my 114k mile 13 hasn't broken yet, so it may be more durable than it seems.

    2 years and 35k miles in, I still hear the engine and think "that can't be right! HOW is that normal??". The multitude of mechanical noises from the 4.0 are like nails on a chalkboard to me.

    Only 9 months and 7000 miles on my Limited, though that included a roadtrip involving almost 1000 miles in a single day. Zero issues so far but for an occasional squeak from the second row seats (squeak disappears when the seats are folded down).

    No guarantees in life but death and taxes. But the 4Runner being trusty comes close. I've read thousands of posts on this site, and almost none of them involve serious mechanical problems. It's very common to see posts about Runners with more than 200K or even 300K miles, and few repairs. The thing is a beast. Your wife is lucky (maybe you should get your own Runner so you can join in the fun?! :D )
