Hi everyone. I’ve been lurking on here for a bit but was looking for some guidance for swapping a 2021 Limited front bumper cover and valance from the Limited trim that I have to an SR5 front bumper cover with a standard SR5 valence.

I’ve seen some threads about this on the site but mostly related to TRD Pro swaps, but am wondering if there is a thread with some part numbers involved with a an SR5 swap and also a YouTube video of someone that has done this.

I’ve done this type of swap with other vehicles that are non-4runners but in the threads that I’ve seen, there are significant parts lists that are offered with no direction on the swap itself.

I guess a few questions that I have are as follows:

    1) Does Toyota sell painted OEM bumper covers? Is this a thing as it is with other vehicles? Or do I need to buy a raw cover and have a body shop paint it?

In all of the threads I have seen, a very long parts list is provided but I don’t fully understand why this is needed. This is simply a swap of one plastic cover for another. Is that not the case?

I am simply looking to remove the front bumper and valence initallly and following up with other mods to get rid of some more of the chrome on the Limited. Less concerned about that right now.

One other thing that seems to rarely come up in convos about the Limited is the four wheel drive system which is unique to the Limited. I have owned many 4Runners over the years but many years ago, Toyota used to put a transfer case in almost all of their 4runners where the center diff was unlocked and you could lock it as will. This allows for 4wd while driving on dry pavement.

For me, I live in an area where it is nice to have a full time system where you transition from fully snow covered roads to dry pavement and back over and over. The Limited is very nice in this respect so you don’t have to keep on flipping from 2wd to 4wd. I personally do not do any off-roading , just running from home to the ski resorts and back, so I don’t need the locking rear diff. Just a thought that I have not seen brought up.

So far, I have swapped the stock Limited wheels for TRD Pro wheels (old style) and BFG 285/70/17 KO2’s and have a Revtek 3”/2” level installed with my X-REAS system.

Again, I have been a poster on multiple sites where a question like this is a bit annoying but I would greatly appreciate a link to threads outlining this type of swap.

    Much appreciated!

I have a spreadsheet which has part numbers and a comparison of what’s needed and what’s reusable.

but basically it’s just the crash bar, radiator deflectors, fender liners. You can re-use the last two items by just trimming.

Since everything used is Toyota l, it’s all plug and play. let me know if you have any questions.

I've heard you had to toss the X-REAS system if you wanted to level or lift it past a certain point and that it can affect the safety features.

Just curious how you did it with the system intact? Also is there a noticeable difference in your ride quality/smoothness with the change in wheels/tires?

I'd love to do that to my limited Nightshade.

I used a Revtek 40023 leveling kit that is meant to be used with XREAS. It does not impact the XREAS and that stays intact. No safety issues that I know of. It rides like stock.

Some guys have deleted XREAS and that involves replacing the stock shocks but it is a passive system so again, no impact on any safety systems that I am aware of.

The tires are bigger and heavier so you can feel it. I have Sprint Booster installed that provides better throttle response and takes the vehicle out of what is basically an ECO mode from the factory. Overall it drives really well.

Man I got me a '21 Nightshade because it was my '1B' choice. The TRD Pro was my '1A' but it's such an elusive unicorn to catch. Nonetheless just wanted to give you respect because of what I saw you did over time on your original post.

Well done on your project and goddamn it looks too sweet!

Hi Daytona! I came across your limited and am so glad I found you! Like match.com status! Lol. I have a 2021 limited and I have done a 3inch lift, 275/60/r20’s, painted calipers, tinted windows, racks, and now I ordered the nightshade trim and bumper pieces to black out. I just need to know how you took off the side skirts and what steps you got. Yours looks like how I want to go. I can’t get the side skirts off, but it looks like crap with nothing. Did you get the end caps I’ve seen online? And as far as the steps, did those bolt on with no mods needed?

I limited rockers unbolt from the bottom, sides and rear fender well. I replaced it with the non-limited rockers and front end cap. you’ll also need to replace the rear door fender flare to match the rockers. As for sliders, I got RSG.

Daytonaviolet, I saw on another post you replied on with removing the chrome window belt molding and replacing with black. My order just arrived and for the life of me I can’t see to get the chrome ones loose/off. Any tips? I matched up the new ones to find the 2 clips at each end, but pushing in the tab isn’t doing anything? Should I just use some pliers and pull up on the runner flange while sliding forward and backward? Any advice would be appreciated. And I’m not trying to keep the chrome ones, would be nice too, but not a must. Thanks dude

removing the chrome belt molding without damaging is a pita. I just ripped mine out with a screw driver as they went straight to the trash

Hi Daytona, yet another question, sorry , I just removed my rocker panels today to take off the clips that hold the rocker panel trim on so I could vinyl wrap black, and whoa. Makes my 4 runner look so big and lifted! I saw Shrivkworks makes a trim to put on limiteds instead of the rocker panel, and see you have it as well. My question is do you know if there pricing online is for 2? It says $395 but you have to select your quantify. Is it really $395 for each side? If so that’s crazy. I’ll probably still do it. But damn. Let me know. Thanks!

I’m not familiar with the Shrockworks products but i believe it’s made of metal. My rockers are oem black non-limited rockers. I went with one because of the perfect fit and finish.

Do you plan to trim your limited rockers before trimming ? You can trim it same height as non-limited and with black wrap it would look and fit like oem

Might have written it before, but if not, mad props. Might make for a good hustle to offer this as a kit or so forth to Limited owners as well.
Heaven knows there are a brick crapton of 4Rs between Santa Rosa and Half Moon.

Whoa- I thought shockworks was the only option. Sweet! I am all about the finish being as OEM as possible. So, which OEM do o purchase, and as far as trimming, I’m a little lost on what I would need to trim. Any guidance would be appreciated. Thanks man.

Oh, after some googleing I think I got you now. I would buy these, cut up the fender line to for them and wrap the part if this that goes up the fender, right?

these builds are awesome but also seem like a huge pain in the ass - why not just start with an OR/SR5?

everyone has there reasons, for me, I wanted the redwood leather, 3rd row seats (4 Kids) and personally I like the limited front ends better than all the other versions. Wanted to get a limited and basically do these things to get the best of both worlds. It has its challenges, but they are fun when we work together to find solutions for the desired outcome and end result. Personal preference at the end of it all

My wife tells me it's "huge pain in the a" to switch back and forth 4wd - 2wd - 4wd in winter time. Especially OR 4wd selector. She is loving the Limited not having to to anything. Full-time 4wd is so much easier even on slippery surface on turns vs part time 4H.

Absolutely love XREAS on road handling compared to others. For sure 3rd row seats, JBL sound, heated and ventilated seats are nice to have.

For if I can swap to SR5 front bumper including parking sensors would be soo awesome.

    hey Daytona,
Can you tell me which rocker panel and end cap you used for yours? Does the 2014-2021 rocker trim cap and trim work? See below:
