So the 2020 Ford Explorer goes back to BOF after being a unibody for some years now. Will this cut into 4Runner sales, or is it still too much of a mommy wagon? Some might argue the 4runner is a mommy wagon too, and they'd have a valid point. Anyways, what are your thoughts?

The ST has a twin turbo 3.0L and can put out 400hp and 415 lb-ft of torque. Smaller 2.3L turbo gets up to 29 mpgs.

I used to like the Explorer back in the early 1990s, when they were basically the SUV version of the Ranger. 4.0L with I-beam suspension were easy to add coilover suspension set-ups to and were really fun to offroad. Don't particularly like the looks of these new ones, but I like the performance they offer.

I changed some lights, tires and tinted windows...mind blowing huh
i don't know how well it will do but competition is good, it drives innovation and keeps companies from getting too complacent so hopefully it will push Toyota to keep pace.

Maybe the new Bronco will cut into sales, but I don't think the Explorer will. It seems it's more on par with the Highlander than the 4Runner, market wise. I like this Explorer much more than the previous gen. Maybe if there was an FX4 Explorer?

Every once in a while a manual 2 door 1st gen will pop up on CL that will catch my eye. I remember test driving one when they first came out.

Pre 2020 Explorer is a piece of shit. We have maybe 40 of them and about half are off the road at any given time. Major transaxle issues, have to run a fucking CO detector in them because they seep exhaust gasses, sub par fuel economy that's well below advertised, zero off road prowess, uncomfortable, shit visibility, blind spots for miles, the goddamn front doors don't open far enough. I mean, they can't even design a door that opens all the way... doors have been on cars since what, at least 1992? If they biffed on the door design imagine what goat-fuckery is at play in the rest of the engineering.

I did like the old style BOF part time 4wd Explorer, drove one (maybe a 2008?) for a year as my issued cruiser. It was decently comfortable and capable off road. At present I rock a 2011 CVPI by choice even though I could be in a '19 Explorer, as it's an infinitely better vehicle.

I have zero hopes for the new Explorer. It looks like they put a frame under a piece of shit, so now it's a framed piece of shit. People will no doubt buy them but anyone savvy would be a fool to choose one over a current style / 5th gen 4R.

I own a F-250. As it is a Ford; Fix Or Repair Daily...
I still love it. My Dodge Ram has just as many problems.
Both diesels. Ford is '04 & Ram is '94. I would drive the Ram every day if they weren't dedicated work trucks.

I'm trying to buy a 95 2500 2wd Cummins off of my brother in law. I love that pickup! Has the banks kit with 110,000 original miles! The old Dodge diesel pickups are awesome I would take an older one over a new diesel pickup any day of the week.

The 12v Cummins is likely to be the best engine put into a production truck to date. If you can maintain the vehicle around the engine; you are looking @ a 1m mile engine! I have replaced the transmission and just about everything but the body. Almost a restoration! Need a frame bast & paint.
Paid $4k for it. Have another $12k into it. 3 inch lift with 35" Duratracs, engine & more suspension work. I need to finish & enjoy it!

I have a 24v on an engine stand at my buddies shop with a cracked block. I had planned on putting it in my high boy but I ended up selling my high boy and bought my first gen to replace it. I wish I could have both but didn't have room for both vehicles right now. I would love to swap a Cummins into a 70s Ford. Definitely my dream vehicle!

Not to show my age... But, my 1st new car was a 79 150. That thing was a tank! Regular maintenance and never had an issue even beating the heck out of it. They don't make them like that anymore. Had an 02 250 and it was junk

20171031_104643.jpg 78 F250 I got rid of this past summer. Built 351 with a 4 speed. Lockers front and rear, 4.10s, 4" lift on 37s. It was a blast and would go anywhere you pointed it. It would smoke 37s which was pretty fun!

I saw this Willy's pickup awhile ago and talked to the owner. Has a 12v in it.

A Williy's with a Cummins! I should only hope... I have the engine :duel: but, then I lose my Dodge. Maybe time to order a crate engine!

The trucks, big trucks, and the Mustang should not be compared to the other vehicles in fords lineup. Fords bread and butter are these vehicles and they build them better than they do their other vehicles like the Explorer, etc. IMO. Fords reputation relies on their big trucks performance and reliability, so again IMO, you cannot compare a big truck Ford to an Explorer when it comes to quality/reliability. I think it's like this with all the manufacturers trucks.

It is ironic you say that. I wish I could remember where I heard or read this; Ford plans to phase out everything but the Mustang, F series pickups, their vans & crossovers. No more passenger cars iirc

I heard that as well. I'm not sure when they are implementing it though.
