    Could the head unit of a 2019 (with Apple CarPlay) fit and work in a 2016? While the dimensions look the same, I’m guessing they may have changed the wiring in the back?

    I believe you’re asking about a 2020 head unit compatibility with earlier models and no one has done it yet. They’re a couple grand, so you can find out if you can fork over some cash:spending:

    I believe there’s more to it than just buying a 2020 OEM head unit and doing a swap to the 2019 and previous years. The pin connections on the wire harness needs to re-pinned, which can be a great deal of work.

    Watch this YT video where it’s better explained. It’s for the Tundra but probably applies to the 4Runner as well.
