No pros. That size is much wider than the Limited 245/60/20 tires. I see no upside to getting that tire size. It will look wonky and unless you are mostly driving on pavement, that size is not good for off road.

THE TIRES WERE ALEADY ON MY 2018. LOOKING INTO GETTING NEW ONES, ANY THOUGHTS. 2018 WITH ONLY 13K FOR MILES.

Strange size they put on. What wheels? Are the tires bad? Why not run them until they are worn out?

    Pros -
    1) It will look different. People will look, "Wait, what???"

    Cons -
    1) 20 in are a heavier wheel compared to 17in wheels
    2) 20in wheels on low profile tire more prone to scratches
    2) Down grade to a smaller diameter tire generally 31.2 vs stock tires are 31.6
    3) 285/50R20 seem to have very poor tire choices. Even worse if you want winter rated tires if you live in a snowy area.

the 275/55-20 and 285/55-20 are far more common and popular sizes
i didnt even realize there were any offroad'ish tires in that size, looks like Nitto is the only one that makes a tire that size. The recon grappler and ridge grappler.

If you step to a 275/55-20 or a 285/55-20 you get a LOT more tires to choose from.
I have had 275/55-20 and 285/55-20 and 305/50-20 on my 4Runners and really like the wider tougher look of wider tires. If you are on aftermarket wheels, you likely need to be lifted to keep from rubbing. Do you know what brand of 2" lift you have? Did you measure it to see the amount of lift? What brand wheels and what offset are they?

    https://www.discounttire.com/fitmentresult/tires/size/285-50-20 --(25 tires)

    https://www.discounttire.com/fitmentresult/tires/size/275-55-20 --(146 tires)
    https://www.discounttire.com/fitmentresult/tires/size/285-55-20 --(42 tires)

Use this to compare tire sizes to see how each size will be different in height and width.

    Hello*

    Con: That's gross
Pros: 17" wheels (not rims) are fairly cheap... cause that's gross

I can't think of any pros to running a 20 inch wheel on an SUV with brakes designed for a 17 inch wheel. On-road comfort and off-road performance would be better running the 17 inch wheels for tires up to 35 inches and beyond.

    @TrailSpecial22
    You asked for this.

I'll stop teasing. Here's my honest take on the pros and cons.
I think for road use 18" wheels would be fine. 20's on a 4Runner don't make much sense to me. Yes, you'd have less tire deflection on high speed corners, but with a higher CG SUV I'm not sure that's much of a benefit.
The cons are significant. Heavier. Harsher ride. Tires are more expensive.

OP if you need new tires I'd seriously consider moving to a smaller wheel. 17" is the stock wheel size for good reason. Highest I'd push it is 18" and that would only be strictly for street use.

Alright one last tease... I'm sorry
    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ihErEq6SRrk

De-broing your 4Runner would be relatively easy.
    17" wheels. Decent tires
    Ditch the spacer lift.
Consider ditching the aftermarket fender flares if possible.

I find those fender flares very "interesting". Honestly I think the factory ones would give a better look to OPs 4runner.

The Running boards are also very interesting. The hinges seems to be from a Limited or TRD Sport medel. And the running boards seems pretty long from what I have seen for 4Runners.

20" wheels come on the Limited and TRD Sport model. You apparently havent ridden in either of those because if you had you would know that they ride just fine. Matter of fact, i truly believe the BEST riding 4Runner on the road is the TRD Sport and Limited models. Yes, the ride quality is mostly due to the shocks but the tires as you say being smaller "theoretically" would have a negative impact on ride but the Limited and TRD Sport ride great. I have both and own both and have had a few now and i can tell you that once you put a good set of aftermarket tires on the stock 20" wheels, the Limited and TRD Sport ride like an absolute dream. Good tires AND those good shocks make you feel like you are riding in something much more expensive and plush than a 4Runner.

Good tires on 20" wheels ride fine. I would rather have the 20" wheels any day of the week. OP if you want my opinion, and you need tires, the General Grabber ATX are an absolutely great tire, ride great, do great in every condition you can throw at them, and they last absolutely almost forever.

I'll aggree and add to this. It would appear that the lower rocker of the SR5 has been removed which is exposing the frame and the long brackets. If you look at the way the front fender flare hangs down, it likley was supposed to wrap over the top of the plastic rocker panel that appears to be removed. The long brackets for the side steps i will agree likely came from a Limited or TRD Sport that has the lower rocker / molding and these longer brackets were necessary to keep the side step below that fender flare.

How did you find a 2018 with 13,000 miles and why does it need tires on it? I guess the previous owner bought the tires and wheels used maybe?
The under-hood pic is pristine. Nice vehicle hope you were able to get it below standard market price for a 4R with no miles. Should last you a LONG time.

Both of the trims you mentioned come with XREAS which attribute to the "great ride" you're referring to.

The SR5 with a spacer lift and 20" wheels no doubt rides like shit. :anonymous:

Edit: Not trying to be harsh here I just don't see the benefit of 20" wheels on any 4Runner. Especially a none xreas model... Overall, it looks like a mint condition 4Runner! I'd probably just get some 17's and remove the spacer lift and fender flares. But to each his own!

I will be getting rid of the Nitto grabber G2 tires soon . I am thinking of a 275/60/20 or switch to 18 or 17 inch rims

    Do you want taller ?
    Do you want wider ?
    Do you want skinnier ?
Is there a particular look you are going for?
I have some options above. I personally like 20” wheels and all of my vehicles have the stock 20” wheel and I love them. If you like your wheels done listen to all these bozos
If you don’t like your wheels look at other 20s and 17s and calculate your cost on the tires and wheels. 17” tires are getting outrageously expensive lately. You may be cheaper with 20” wheels and tires if you want to change.

My 4runner will be 90% road driving and 10% of road. Any suggestions on 20inch tires ? I also have a 2002 Tundra that has had nothing but high end Michilen tires . Please leave pro and cons

Kings, Crestone Rack, Baja S8, Baja Fogs, Baja XL80s, Baja mini cubes, SPOD, ARB compressor, RCI full skids, ROAM box and stuff. ST Pros. Shrockworks sliders... GOAT armour
Get a set of stock sized 20s Michellin Defenders they seem to be about the best all season tire offering mild offroad use and great highway use. Not super cheap but excellent

these are good to in 17s

My favorite is the General Grabber ATX
I have had a few sets of BFGoodrich AT tires and a set of BFG MT
The Load Range D and Load Range E General Grabber ATX will outlast any other tire on the market in mileage
The General Grabber does excellent in rain, snow, sleet, ice, and heat.
The General Grabber looks very good, at its advertised width it looks wider than every other tire available in the same width. I have a set of 275/55-20 on my Tundra and a friend has a set of 275/55-20 BFG At on his chevy with a wider OEM wheel but my Generals look WAY tougher and wider. I have plenty of friends with Nittos, Toyos, Coopers ect ect. It seems like the newer BFG are getting less mileage than everyone else. The Nitto and Toyo are high end quality tires that last. The Generals will out-do them all in my opinion.

With the aftermarket wheels you have that are likely 8.5 or 9" wide, i would personally run a wide tire. The 305/50-20 would look really really really good and be well within the height you need and width to make your vehicle really look tough. I suspect the lower side skirts have already been taken off your vehicle to try to keep the tires from rubbing.
