Long story short - had 2016 4Runner Limited stolen. It was for my daughter’s 16 birthday in 8 days. After a week no sighting of car bought 2018 4Runner SLT. Currently has Ironman 265 70 R17. Rides pretty smooth but she is wanting beefier look.

went to tire store and he said they can not recommend and wants me to tell him what tire - assume liability.

I know nothing about tires. Can someone please tell me what is the best “beefier” AT tire we should get - live Midwest so want something safe, good in wet, snow, etc. Will mainly be going to school and around a 15 mile area of our home.

I would look at the BFG Trail-Terrains to start (the 3PMSF rated one since I see two sizes available at Costco that fit) for anyone who wants some of the aggressive look but doesn’t plan to really get into off-roading.

If you don’t care as much about the look and want a solid all-around tire, also not planning to tackle dirt and rock, Defender LTX M/S or M/S2 or X LT A/S (if at a warehouse club) is my pick.

But of course those aren’t your only options. I thought about the Firestone Destination AT2’s but as you dive in more you’ll see more, tougher all-terrains that I don’t think you’ll need at this time.

    Welcome from AZ!
I kept the stock tire size and went with Falken Wildpeaks. Over 40,000 miles they still have lots of tread.

Also running Wildpeak AT4W tires (switched from Wlidpeak AT3W's). There are plenty of options and plenty of threads on here to help you make a decision. Just do a couple searches of the forum.

If the ones you had were a decent brand, in good condition, with good tread, relatively new date code - I would recommend leaving them alone. However, I'm not a fan of Ironman tires so would definitely replace them for one of my kids / wife.

Nice looking rig! Welcome aboard! When the stock tires wear out, I’ve been looking at Toyo Open Country AT3 in the stock size as a replacement. They look beefy, snow rated and lightweight. Although, personal preference may vary from brand to brand, investigate and decide which is best for you.

I have and love my Good Year Duratrac RT's, especially if you want beefy and great all season with some additional strength in the snow and mud. XL load is a little heavier than stock but still a great tire.

2nd best i would say are the Baja Boss AT's and closer to stock weight and load. If not the Wildpeak AT4W are fine.
