Had this sr5 for awhile and decided it’s time to start building it out.
Not doing anything too crazy, main use will be ripping around the farm in the snow, day trips, small camping trips and going up to the mountain for snowboarding. We live right next to the national forest and tons of dnr land, so not really setting it up for anything longer than 3-4 days (which is even a rarity for us due to the farm).

Went with bilstein 5100 shocks all around with the front set to the .85 setting. Stock coils and springs. Did a bmc, trimmed the front bumper a tiny bit and pushed the liners forward. Put on 255/80r17 wildpeak at4’s, kept the stock sr5 wheels, no spacers. Also did Rear mud flap delete/block plate from ark, splash guards from ark, got a Sherpa crestone rack and threw on the Yakima skybox nx xxl.

Ordered some Dd ss3 max yellow fog lights to install next. After this, I plan to the apex quick lynx front disconnects and an Eaton rear locker.

Will keep updating this as more we make progress.

Anyone here running the quick lynx or an Eaton have feed back on their experiences? Also, anyone here used the opt Offroad rear disconnects? I see them on their site but haven’t seen any videos of them installed and can’t find any reviews. Want to do the rear disconnects also but hoping to learn more about this particular product before ordering.

Reading more threads on the ott tune, sounds like it’s right up the alley of what I’m looking for. Found a guy near me who does it and going to see if I can get that scheduled out also.

According to Tinkerers Adventure (Toyota guru on YouTube) a disconnected front sway bar paired with a connected rear offers the most articulation if that’s what you’re after. Video might be worth a watch. Also I believe @ChessGuy has the apex disconnects and might be able to offer some insight.

Appreciate this recommendation! Watched that video this morning and tbh after that, I don’t really see the benefit of a rear disconnect. Might try it one day for fun, but going to put it on the back burner.

I talked to a shop in my area and am getting a quote today for the Eaton rear e locker and quicklynx. If I’m lucky I will be able to get it done before the first good chunk of snow.

dd ss3 max fog lights will be here this week, will post some more pics once installed. Also ordered some Phillips extreme vision +130 bulbs to replace the high beams and low beams.

Also, anyone here have any trail recommendations in eastern wa or northern Idaho?

Lastly, I realized I didn’t mention skids in my initial post. Thinking about going with the rci aluminum ones. Anyone have any other recommendations?

Also, picked up a truck saw. Got a little ms250. I have 2 362’s already but have been wanting a smaller one. With the revamp of the 4 runner ip, I figured it made sense (or atleast that’s what I told myself)

Let us know how you like the disconnects once you have some time with them. This is something I’m looking at doing as well

I will! I just ordered them. Have them and the rear locker scheduled to be installed on the 12/11. Have a 2 week trip to a cabin in the national forest starting 12/22 and will get to put some miles on them during that I’m hoping (unless we really get dumped on lol)

I thought about doing a sway bar disconnect/delete, until I saw this video. FWD to 5:30 for the pertinent part. Without the sway bar, the cv axles can over-extend and be blown apart.

I also debated whether to get a locker. The Eaton e-locker seems a solid choice. In the end, I did not get one. The situations I may need one are so far and few between, it didn't seem worth it. YMMV.

yeah I watched that video posted in another thread the other day! Not terribly concerned based on everything else I have read. Time will tell though and I will be here to report if it happens haha.

yeah I was back and forth between Eaton and arb. The air lines, compressor and other upkeep is what swayed me towards the Eaton. Definitely stoked to get it in there and take it for a rip.

    nice 4R and thanks for sharing, try to report feedback on OTT in the coming weeks. I cancelled my appointment weeks ago from indecision, because I read one or two dudes who provided the first negative feedback I’ve encountered;
    average rpm’s to high
    holding gears too long
concerns of mid-long term stress on drivetrain
    (modified 4R’s in particular)

    *
@kmeeg ’s anti-OTT thread did not weigh into my decision :p
for starters, my warranty went out the window a long time ago.

Yes, the swaybar disconnect from apexdesigns works well. I have used it several times and it makes a difference. It was a PITA of an install though. 20240704_200639.jpg

It’s really good. Just drove home about it an hour. Shift points are a game changer. It holds gear and really allows you to ride the gear you want instead of having it down shift on you. Throttle response is night and day also (and I only went with mild). It really does feel like it has a lot more torque. If you have access to a tuner who can do it and don’t mind spending the $525 (or whatever your guy charges), then do it.

Locker and quick lynx are in!

So now that they are installed it’s time to plan the next modifications.

First is a hidden winch mount from hk fab, going to run this with a warn zeon 10 or 12k. Back and forth in size, would love to hear your opinions on if the 12k is really needed.

I plan to to full skids at the same time as I do the winch. Still back and forth between aluminum or steel. weight of aluminum is great (and very tempting), but I worry about how it is “grabby” when hit, in comparison to steel.

After this I’m going to go with the windshield washer relocate kit from srq fab. The windshield reservoir is my closest spot for rubbing. So in preparation for 34-35’s, I’m just going to get it done.

Then I plan to do some high clearance fender liners. leaning towards the ultra high clearance liners from scorched fab since the leave more of the fire wall exposed for pounding/tubbing as needed.

Once these are done I’m going to get a new set of wheels with a less offset (thinking the trd pro wheels with +5) and throw some bigger tires on them. Back and forth between kenda klever (rt or mt2) in 35x10.5r17 or some more wild peak at4’s In 285/85r17.

Will need to do some more trimming on the front bumper also, but just going to wait and see how much is actually needed once the bigger tires are put on. I already did a bmc, but if needed I plan to also do an actual relocation. Will just depend how things look once mounted up and articulated with the fork lift.

Once these are all done it’s time to a regear to 4.88 and throw in a front Eaton e locker while things are taken apart.

Will do a rear bumper set up eventually but it’s the last thing on the list, so haven’t really thought more into specs yet. I do like one that I saw with a rear hidden winch. Takes the spot of the a spare tire. Kinda leaning towards this since we go out a lot by ourselves. Would be solid to recover front or rear without a ton of rigging.

This video shows the limitations of IFS. I'm headed to Utah and rented a lifted Wrangler on 37s, at least the rental place gives you a map of trails you can and can't do. I'd definitely not take my ORP in these trails. Solid axles all the way for these trails!

Sorry I missed this. I do not, I had them installed by a local offroad specific shop. There is a really good install video on YouTube of the quicklynx install. I watched it probably 20 times before deciding I was going to just pay someone to do
    It haha

    Yeah…

Got out tonight in the national forest. We made some hot dogs and smores. Cruised around out there from like 5-10pm. Going to go to one of my favorite spots tomorrow that has some more technical spots (not just basic nfs roads) to push the 4 runner a bit. Plan get some wheeling/action photos then!

i have those on my 22 4R and can tell you they are extremely bright. So bright I only use them as DRL - at night i piss oncoming traffic off. I ran the fog lights to their own switch and they really look nice as DRLs.
