2015 Limited -- Auto Running Boards

Hello!
I've spent quite a bit of time on the forum looking for information on an 'auto' running board for my 2015 Limited 4Runner and have come across conflicting information.

Can someone please tell me if there is an available 'auto' running board that will fit my 4Runner? If such a unit/kit exists... Can you share a PN or distributor?

The stock running boards leave very little room to actually get your foot on safely. They're somewhat useless and I'm interested in something that provides more available surface area for safer footing entering and exiting the vehicle. I like the 'auto' running board option as it gives the illusion that the 4Runner sits higher once they're fully retracted.

NO, you can not buy an aftermarket auto running board for the Limited models with the low hanging side skirts. The only way to get auto running boards is from the factory.

You can however, swap the side skirts to the SR5 side skirts and THEN you can buy auto running boards from AMP and others. I am pretty sure the only real difference is the length of the mount that bolts to the body but the Limited is only able to get the auto running boards if it was wired and installed by Toyota in Tahara.

There was a user in Michigan with a set of take-off auto running boards for sale here on the forum back in December. They were priced very very cheap and i wanted them pretty bad but they are about 1500 miles away from me and shipping would be insane. Check the for sale forum and look for them, i wanna say he posted back in late December. All you gotta do is bolt them up and wire up a relay on the door pin switch so when you open the door the boards extend, and retract when you close the door. Or if you wanna be real fancy there are plenty of people who have part numbers posted of the factory Toyota ECU that controls the board, they are available.

 

This is what mine came with: Seems like it would be cost prohibitive, and kind of a pain to integrate.
