    Hey guys,

I am new to this site and new to the 4runner world. My wife and I just picked up a 2015 Limited and the first thing I noticed driving around is that the headlights are pretty dim. Those halogens lights seem very dated especially when you come from LED or HIDs worlds. From the reading I have done so far, lots of guys say the LEDs and HIDs are super bright and the head light itself should be tilted down. They also say that the housing wasn't actually made for LED OR HIDs so its like putting a square peg into a round hole..... it will work, but it wasn't made for it.

At the end of the day, my concern is that I don't want to be "THAT GUY" on the road with the super crazy bright lights that everyone flashes, but I also want brighter lights without out spending $1000 to $2000 plus dollars.

There are lots of guys that have suggested the H11 - H9 bulb switch which I might just end up doing until I can find the best fit for my driving needs.

    Thanks,

    Welcome.

The H9 upgrade will make a huge difference. Swapping the housing for an OEM led headlight is inexpensive and almost plug and play.

I used HIDs for sometime.its has good light output. But wiring requires drilling holes in dust cover. Couple times I noticed one bulb didn't light up and turn off and back of turned it on. Probably glitches on the ignitor thing.

Then I bought 2 new dust covers from Toyota and put in LEDs. So far I have tried few LEDs on my and my friends 4Runners. I don't think there's any halogen can give better light than good LEDs. The brightest I've used (currently using too) are Hikari Titanova from Amazon.

For fog lights I've tried LEDs but they are too bright for on coming traffic. They I bought led housing that exactly look like 2021+ 4Runner TRD Pros. They are plug and play and 100% perfect fit, unlike some of aftermarket fog lights.

Agreed, between the halogen upgrades and LED take offs by people who upgrade to morimotos, HID has been more or less irrelevant for about 10 years now, I wouldn't bother with HID and all of its headaches.

Thanks guys. This is all great information to absorb. I was checking out morimotos LED housing conversion kit last night. Has anyone taken there headlight apart and installed these? Seems a bit crazy, but if its worth it I might try it or just pony up the money and buy a new set of headlights

Years ago, when I had my 14 T4R, I came to the same conclusion that the T4R didn’t have enough light. So the headlight mod, was considered.
I tried the H9 bulb mod, wasn’t what I was looking for.

Here is a link that may be worth your scanning/reading.
