2011 4Runner/ Should I purchase th?

I found a 2011 4Runner Limited thru Carvana. It has 81K miles. I reviewed the CarFax and discovered last owner was in Ohio and they had it for 8 years. Should I be concerned about a rusted undercarriage?

14 year old vehicle. You should be concerned about all the common issues afflicting 5th gens, not just the rusted undercarriage.

 

Yes, rust is largest issue for 4runners. First blast AC on max to see if it works, then look under the truck and post some pics.

Check under the engine see if there is any leaks too, also maybe add the price so we know

 

In that case, OP, be sure the wiper transistor has been replaced in the last 15k miles (little known maintenance item) and the passenger-side PCV valve has been inspected for corrosion as 4th and 5th gen’s are especially vulnerable to that issue.

 

There are newer Limiteds on Carvana for a tad bit more. 7 day returns also.

 

Thanks for all the responses! I decided not to purchase it. Carvana does have a 7 day return but I would still lose the $695 towing fee. They do take photos of the interior and exterior, but no undercarriage. Nor, do they mention the condition of it in their 150 point inspection report. When you send inquiries, it’s just general chat responses assuring you that they do a thorough inspection and they don’t sell vehicles with significant rust. Not taking a $695 chance. So, my search continues. I do miss having a 4Runner. My 2003 was totaled last year when a driver turned left in front of it. I’m just a girl who desperately wants out of her Mazda MX-5 Miata RF. I fear for my life in Atlanta traffic. While the manual transmission and nimble handling are a total blast, it’s too damn hot in the GA summers to enjoy with the top down!

 

Perfectly understandable, when I looked at CarMax you couldn’t really get photos of underneath easily and I got the same boilerplate standards message. (so I did not want to pay to ship the Pathfinders I was looking at)

I ended up shipping a couple 4Runners out and picking one but otherwise you might be limited to what you can travel to - a dealer or smaller shop might be willing to arrange a video call or photos.

 

Maintenance of all the important under vehicle lubes is vital for long ownership. Too many runner owners service them like one services a FWD sedan - example Camry-only engine oil changes.
So both diffs, both propeller shafts, Transfer case and tranny are never serviced. Not a rig I would want to purchase.

Welcome from Wisconsin! How much is the asking price? Are you concerned about undercarriage rust? Did you go look at it? The mileage indicates about 5,800 miles a year, if you haven't looked at it, you might want to start there. 10-4

No, it’s probably fine. I’d buy it before it get’s snagged by somebody else. All the stories of rusted out frames are completely overhyped. Regardless, you can easily patch up the frame with a soldering gun if you have surface rust.

 

A couple of forums I sometimes read but not participate have rolled out AI users by the admins to scrape data and train the AI model. It's....weird.
