This is a long shot .....Last year, I saw a YouTube video where two friends, one with a 4th Gen and one with 5th Gen, white 4Runners traded spoilers. Each bolted on fine. Each liked the look of the others. I also prefer the 5th Gen look. If anyone is interested in trading (Greater Atlanta/N GA area), please reach out to me. Thanks, Mark.

Without a decent amount of fab work. I doubt they bolted on "fine". But who knows, I'm wrong at least once every leap year.

You could be correct, as I did not confirm anything said in the video, and I did not remember a specific discussion on fabrication. I will confirm, though. Thanks for pointing it out.

Does a 4th gen. spoiler leave less dust deposited on the rear glass on a 5th gen. than the original? That would be the only thing making it worthwhile IMHO. They're both not exactly appealing to the eye.

The idea of the 4th gen 4runner spoiler if I remember correctly was to push more air down the rear glass to help with dispersing rain and maybe dust I suppose. The rear spoiler in the 4th was updated in 2005 to include the "hump" as seen in the OP's photos. 03-04 were flat top spoilers. Hump was added in 2005. Some after markets are flat topped with a completely different 3rd brake light. In the 5th gen is there a space between the spoiler and the top lip of the trunk where it mounts?

LOL yeah, they are both a bit clunky looking. I have no idea if one works better for dust than the other, but there is bound to be a different wind pattern corresponding to the different shapes. But when I'm on long dusty roads, it just gets everywhere! Spoilers probably help some, but it gets so bad on Forest service roads here in the east that I carry and very small battery blower when camping to remove the gritty dust from the rubber seal before I lower the window. The grit will destroy the window rubber seal over time.

leftyfire, I think there is a but not sure. No matter, I'm forgetting about - I'm fairly certain the rear wiper housing is integrated with the 5th Gen spoiler, which may or may not matter. I am hoping to try to find the YouTube I remembered, but your distinction between the 3-04 spoilers and the later models makes me think the trade I am referring to was just that, both within the 4th gen, and I remembered it wrong. I just got the part numbers for both and will confirm with my local Toyota collision shop (run by the Toyota Dealership) tomorrow. They are top-notch, and 90% of their work is on Toyotas. They would know before a parts person would know.

I agree with you to just let it go. You got the superior spoiler that was offered for that time on the 4th gens as opposed to the after market ones.
