I hope this is the right section and that someone can help me with this. I have a 2007 Limited with the JBL system that I want to add a head unit with Nav. I have an opportunity to pickup a NIB Pioneer AVIC-Z140BH . This head unit has all the features I want in a stereo but it is also a stereo that was first sold over 12 years ago. I know that if it will work, I will need special harnesses and modules to get everything to work together with the rest of the JBL system. I'm not interested in gutting the JBL speakers and amp and install all new components. Sites like Crutchfield is great about giving you this info but only for head units they currently sell. Can somebody tell me where I can go to determine what is required to complete this job. I would sure appreciate any help with this as after 4 hours of searching I am no closer to learning anything more than when I started, lol!!! Thank you in advance for your help and advice.

Can you google that Pioneer head unit part number WITH something like "metra harness adapter" (or similar) and see if anything pops up on what adapter wiring harness you will need? Or, you could look on crutchfield at the Metra harnesses and see if the connectors in the picture match up with the connector shapes/pin counts on your head unit.

BUT cutting the factory harness is exactly the type of info one would get over there.
You can get a MAESTRO setup and keep all the steering wheel controls, factory amp, factory GPS system, ect ect ect.

The JBL isnt a standard amp, you dont just cut the harness and connect the radio wires, the JBL amp runs off a weird system where it shares a ground or positive for some speakers. I remember reading back on it many years ago when i did a stereo. Back then i used Metra harness and some sort of programmable box for the steering wheel controls. Then another JBL system i did a few more years back i used a Maestro harness/module and it was so much easier and worked so much better. It was lots faster and didnt require the multiple harnesses like the Metra stuff.

Thanks for the replies. Crutchfield, and sites like them, only show harnesses and modules for current models they are selling. Airdam is correct, JBL doesn't want you to install anything but their products. It's either gut everything and start fresh or leave it alone. I have an email into Maestro to see if they might still have what I need to make the upgrade. Thanks again, if they have something I will be sure to post the part numbers here for others.

maestro is a programmable system. I just did one two years ago on a 2005 sequoia with JBL. You take the box and plug it up to a computer at home and download the software into it off their website for the vehicle you’re using. Then wire the box up and plug it up and you’re done. I suspect the same box I used on the sequoia is the same box you’ll use but the programming from the computer will be what’s different. It does steering wheel controls and voice activation stuff and all. It retains all factory systems, I hooked it to a pioneer head unit.

little history, I had a few of the early pioneer AVIC head units. I had an N1 and D1 and Z1 back in the day. The N1 was the first really cool one they built after the alpine flip out came out and mogged everybody.

Thanks for that info. I'm going to email them again today and hopefully they will reply. I actually had the AVIC-Z140BH in my truck 12 years ago. It was one of their flagship models and the price proved this, lol!!! I love that it had everything, like Nav built into it. You didn't need to use a phone like the trend is today. I hope you're right, I really want this to work. I will keep this thread up to date do it might help someone else in the future. Thanks again to everyone. NCH
