I have a 2006 4.0 4x4 4runner and am attempting to swap in a 2003 4.7 V8. I have a complete truck with transmission, transfer case, wiring harness etc. Have any of you guys successfully done this? Any info is greatly appreciated. I'm not having any luck finding information. Can the v6 transmission and t-case be used with the wiring harness from the donor vehicle, or is the donor transmission and t-case required? Or is it simply not possible without it being more trouble than it's worth? Thanks guys for any advice you can give me.

The V8 truck runs great and has motor, trans, transfer case, harness and everything and did I mention it's free.I really hope the existing transmission and t-case will work with the existing harness from the donor vehicle If it can be done cheaper than a new V6, it might be worth it. That's the only reason I'm considering it. Thanks for the reply.

Thanks man. I have a feeling I'm going to need all the luck I can get. I'm finding that it's almost impossible unless you have an unlimited budget. Everyone is recommending a Chevy LS motor, trans, and transfer case along with Lord only knows what kind of wiring harness adapters(plural).

On a related side note: A friend of mine is scheming to put a Cummins Turbo-Diesel in-line 6 out of a donor Dodge Ram in to a 2014 4Runner. So far, he has the engine compartment gutted on the 4Runner, and the Cummins pulled from the Ram. A lot of mods to be done with the front suspension and engine mounting.

I don’t know how this is going to play out from being road legal / emissions legal stand point. I just talk to him by phone once in a while. He’s in Michigan where I used to live, but I’m in Texas now.

Well I’ll believe it when I see it. I call him the Michigan Madman II. I don’t know if any of you know who the original “Michigan Madman” was. One E.J. Potter. He was famous in motor cycle racing and tractor pulling years ago. He’s deceased now. If you’re curious I believe you can read about him through a google search.
