I’m looking to change out the stock tires on my 2022 Trail Edition to the Toyo Open Country A/T III (LT 255/80R17 121/118R E) with the Rough Country 2” Coilover lift Kit. My question is whether that is a sufficient lift kit or if a 3” is required

A lift will not help you clear larger tires. They will still need to fit in the same size wheel well when the suspension is compressed.

The rims are the standard 17” from the factory and I’ve confirmed the A/T III’s will fit. My only hesitation is that I am getting quotes from a 2” lift kit at $600 (the one in the picture) and a 3” lift kit (made by Icon) for nearly $2500. As long as a 2” lift will give me enough clearance for those tires then I can move forward with the build.

You could always put stock size Toyo’s on your stock wheels for the best savings of all. These 4Runners are very capable off-road in stock trim, the stock tires are the only weak link. Welcome to the forum!

    Welcome to the forum!

As @HuskyMike mentioned, a suspension lift doesn't clear tires. Trimming, alignment, and wheel offset clear tires.

That said, stick to a modest lift if you want to avoid the need to add aftermarket upper control arms. A 2" lift should be fine. With a 3" lift, you might not be able to get your alignment in spec with the stock upper control arms.

Maybe you fill out your location in your profile? Also, your vehicle, a 2022, is new enough that I would just change the struts to a Bilstein 5100 adjustable spring perch. You don't need new springs and the Bilstein are height adjustable, to dial in the lift.
