In March, I became the owner of a beautiful 3rd gen! (https://www.4runners.com/threads/re...mountains-road-trips.44190/page-2#post-711212)

Have just ticked over 3,800 miles since then. We've been to:

    - Yosemite
    - San Francisco
    - Mendocino
    - San Clemente (multiple times)

Owning a 3rd gen is a dream! Really capable, simple & upgradeable - I've already installed interior mods, replacing the rear ashtray with a power mount, installing a MAM next to the front cup holders and installing complete rear moll-e panels. It's an absolute trip! Installing the moll-es for the first time, as an amateur, was a learning process and I drilled more holes into the metal than needed, definitely a cry once enjoy forever scenario.

Also installed a rooftop tent. The Thule Tepui Foothill. This is an awesome starter tent. It's a bit too bulky for what I'm looking for re:eek:verland. It's perfect for this season, but I'll seek an upgrade with a hardshell for next season.

Also - been using a Scangauge III and noting down mileage at the end of every trip to monitor MPG. Pre-upgrades was getting 19-20 mpg, with the tent and nothing else ~ 18 mpg and when on trips with partner, dog and luggage getting about 15-17 mpg

Upcoming is a week long trip to Mammoth Lakes

    Some upcoming mods are

    - Rear bumper upgrade with ability to attach fuel tanks (would like to do 4 day trip through Mojave Desert) - also keen for feedback here - would also like to lift out the tyre, mount on the rear, and replace with a compressed air canister
    - Seeking out a front ashtray replacement, but haven't found anything good yet
    - More storage options, but not going to rush into anything. Looking at rear shelving / cupboards / modular storage

    Fire road through Yosemite
