0W-20 and 5W-30

Every dealer and oil change shop I’ve ever visited. Never been recommend 8/16. The dealer when it was new told me 10k and then down to 5k, just like USA shops say ….but that’s not like USA!!

Up until 2015 Toyota had the maintenance schedule right in the warranty booklet: https://www.toyota.ca/content/dam/toyota/documents/manuals/en/OMS1015U/OMS1015U.pdf

The "Maintenance Service" includes oil & filter change. Since Toyota isn't on the hook for ToyotaCare costs in Canada, all the oil changes are every 8000km/6mo. regardless of driving conditions.

It looks like it's 8,000km for the first three oil changes and then switches to a 16,000km interval after that.

Unless I'm reading that wrong?

 

As shown in the booklet, the "maintenance service" includes oil & filter plus a bunch of other items like inspecting brake pads/shoes. So first three 8000km visits are oil & filter, thereafter the 8000km visits alternate between the costlier "maintenance service" and oil & filter service:



Typical dealer for example may charge $150 for oil & filter with 0W20, and $300 for "maintenance service".

 

Extra virgin olive oil, also handy when I am overlanding and need to toss a salad.

 

I use a German brand of oil made by Veinner-Schlider for all my lubrication needs. It has never failed me whether mall crawling, overlanding, or idling at a stop light...
