Thoughts on a '15 for towing a travel trailer and daily commutes?

I’m looking for some advice regarding the 4Runner. Hopefully next year I’ll be getting a travel trailer that will weigh in at about 3K#’s, well within the 4Runner’s capabilities. Today I test drove a ’15 SR5 just to get the feel and came away impressed with the handling and ride quality. To get some of the features I want, like leather seats and heated side view mirrors I’d have to go for the SR5 Premium. Also there’s the 4Runner Limited with all sorts of bells and whistles but do I really need them, especially at an additional $5700.


The use will be towing a TT, sometimes on a gravel road, sometimes on a forest service roads but no off-road towing. Other than that it will be my daily commute vehicle. I’m retired so “daily commutes” amount to hauling my dog around, going to the store and off to visit friends and family.


What are the thoughts of those of you who have experience with the 4Runner?

 

I camp a lot. And I haven't driven a new one but I've towed with my 03 with the v8 with no issues. Down fire roads and camp sites and rural areas. Even stock it rode great and towed fine, little sag in the rear but that I'm sure is easily fixed on the 15.

With the new body style the interior is 10x better, I wouldn't think the limited is worth it in this case if you're already questioning it. Only thing I would do is check the features for Offroad capability and make sure you can live without those features.

I drive mine 300 miles a week to commute and like it a lot.
