Just bought my 4Runner a few weeks ago. The dealer said they are rock sliders with bolt on steps, so I removed the steps. The only thing that concerns me is that every after market rock slider I see bolts onto the frame but these are bolted to the body. So my question is do these look to be actual functional rock sliders or are they just cosmetic?

Cosmetic. An attachment point for the steps you removed.

They will protect from smaller or lighter things being kicked up, as well as likely protect from parking lot door dings. They will not protect from offroading and dragging on a rock/obstacle.

Yeah, said likely because it may protect, depending on shape of door. But looks like you're right as they appear tucked in pretty close.

Thanks everyone. Do y’all have any suggestions on rock slider brands? I’d like to get actual sliders for solid protection.

Works great! I use them every time I load up the kayak or whatever I'm keeping up there. The upward angle helps also, as I'm a little short guy.

They are not rock sliders if the bolt to the body. Mine bolt to the frame and can take the full weight of my truck on them. they also work as steps but are pretty high.

They are not rock sliders if they bolt to the frame. My rock sliders will take full weight of my truck and not bend. They will also work as steps but are pretty high.

If you're relatively close and decide to upgrade, I may take those off your hands.
