    Hello all. I plan to document my build here. I just purchased a 1986 4Runner. It has the 22re with 209k miles and automatic transmission. Other than the radio, paint, and Warn hubs, everything appears to be original. My long term goals are to make/keep it reliable and to fully restore it over time. I will keep it mostly stock.

    My immediate plans are to restore the fading top. The paint is in decent shape so I will start with a coat of wax and see how that goes. If anyone has any input or experience, please let me know. I've also ordered a KTT bikini top and replacement B-pillar badges. I'll have those on in the next couple of days.

    Can anyone confirm that the chrome steps are factory? They don't say Toyota, but they don't have any brand names either like all the modern ones do.

    I don't think they are factory. Just a guess though. Way nicer than my 86:)

    Yeah I know the hubs aren't. I'm going to dig around some more on the steps. I might powder coat them black if I find out for sure.

    They come from autozone. Or, any other place to buy accessories.

    You asked a question, got an answer and then questioned the answer you got and appear to be upset about it. They're steps...if you like them or need them keep them. How they're attached to your vehicle has nothing to do with if they are factory or not. Just about every "aftermarket" step I've ever installed on a vehicle uses factory holes. I will say I have seen steps almost identical to the ones on your 4runner on a Chevy pickup that actually mount through the floor boards.

    Thanks man. Didn't mean to be a smarta $$. I've been modifying and building trucks for about 20 years. Never seen those at autozone. Could have been picked up there in the 80's I guess, but they are a lot more substantial than you see now. Just wanted to make sure before I remove them. I apologize for the comment.
