    Working on my 2010 SR5 4Runner....

I have a Borla catback exhaust on the car (TRD CAI).... I just bought Doug Thorley shortie headers but I don't have a Y pipe / MidPipe yet. Seems that I should do everything, but I've never worked on a non-turbo car

Can I install the shortie headers safely without the Y pipe? or should I wait and install everything together.

Obviously, you can see I'm prepping for the Magnuson in the future.

I would also love to know anything further about how the Y pipe differs from the stock pipe and why it's beneficial to change it.

I live in Texas and emissions are pretty easy to pass as long as you have your O2 sensors in place.

Thanks in advance for any feedback.

I would recommend talking to the people at Underdog Racing (urdusa.com) they have a y pipe for the 5th gen runner that looks like it would add some flow. I have there catback and it sounds sweet (3” pipe with a Magnaflow muffler and some type of resonator). They also sell a Whipple supercharger system that doesn’t require flashing your ECU. Unfortunately I live in a county in AZ where emission tests are an issue if the cats are removed.

Thanks! Going on their website right now. I'm interested in hearing about the supercharger, as well. All I've heard about so far is Mangnunson. Appreciate it. Kevin
