Pedal commander here too! Best money spent by far! Never tried one, go find someone with it installed. No more searching for gears either.

That AFE CIA Intake is a monster!

Is there still room behind it for a dual battery set-up?

Cold air intakes only have ANY effect at higher RPMs when the stock airbox and filter MAY be a choke point. All are NOT created equal. Most airboxes do a decent job of isolating the engine compartment (HOT) air from the intake (COOLER) air, normally take from a fender scoop of some sort.

I have a K+N kit on my 2014 Malibu 2.0 Turbo. In using my 3 different OBDII scanners, I can see that the intake air temp is normally 3-4 degrees warmer than ambient (Not as isolated from engine compartment air as before.). So, at low RPM, it's not really doing it's job... At 5k+ it's a different story as the intake temp will go to within a degree or so of ambient due to the volume and the increased flow characteristics outweigh any tiny increase in temps.

Nice “HAI”, hot air intake, you know when the air temp is warmer in the intake you actually lesson emissions so your doing the environment a favor....your prob picking up more power by leaning the mixture combined with the exhaust. As long as the ECM can calculate and readjust without a check-engine light coming on, you don’t need to increase injector size for Increased NOX...

I find that running in S3 or S4 (depending on speed) in stop and go traffic is a big improvement. It eliminates the surge that sometimes happens when you go from the brake back to the gas.

I think it does this by removing the torque converter from the equation in those two S-modes.

Ordered a Pedal Commander yesterday and can't wait to see how it works. Hoping all the reviews aren't hype. Love the new ride, but man it's so heavy and slow.

Those blacked out fenders look awesome, Barcelona Trail.

Just a curiosity question. How much of the perceived performance increase of installing the fancy intake is from placebo effect (someone says it increases power and you hear a throatier sound so your “seat of the pants” observation “confirms” the “extea power” even though measurable power increase is nill)?

    Just something to consider.

An open hole from engine compartment straight into the airbox? That is kinda sucky... It's a hot air intake...

I'll give my honest opinion as mine will be here early next week. Currently have the trd exhaust so thought it might balance out with the intake? If it sucks it will be for sale on the other forum but either way I'll give initial feedback and after a couple weeks

Contrary to what people say who have never had one. You'll love it. I went with Sprint booster and was a mod that have no regrets, not snake oil and it works

Too many mods and too much money
I can't speak about the AFE intake, just the TRD. This person (link below) posted Dyno results in 2015 for the TRD intake. It's not much power, but it's proven and the nay sayers hate it. As much as people and aftermarket companies try to convince you it adds 20-30 hp, it DOES NOT. On the other side of the coin, people who have not installed it, are the first ones to jump on the forums to say "it's a waste of money". Maybe it is for a couple hp and some torque. But here is the dyno results to help people make their decision (post#3) . I have one and love how people tell me I'm a fool. But, they have never driven my truck, so I don't give 2 shits. Opinions are like.......
Your rig and your money. Mod away people. Now as far as the drive by wire lag, I will say that my company has gotten me rentals (SR5 Premium and ORP) and the first thing I do is drop them into S mode and stomp on the gas. The computer starts to learn my driving habits and the shift points change. Result? More throttle response and a lot less gas mileage. If your coming from a sport sedan or big V8s, these trucks are dogs, plain and simple. You have to work the skinny pedal a lot, or get a Sprint Booster or Pedal Commander and hope that it makes a difference. Now, let Naysayers flame away lol.

You consider a $400 intake expensive? On a $40K+ truck it represents less than 1 percent of the overall value. People spend $400+ on fog lights, $600+ on light bars, $1500 on roof racks, and you think $400 is a lot of money. Sorry bud, gotta disagree with your assessment - it's a drop in the bucket to have something that looks killer, sounds like a beast, and simply put.. makes driving the truck more fun

I choose to leave the top intake cover off. It comes with a plug that when in, muffles the tone. The thing roars with it out & offers a 2nd source of air for the system - so I leave it out. As previously mentioned - with the plug out, the box is provided w a 2nd air source as the factory site from the fender is also used.

I have this intake matched with the AFE throttle body spacer & cat back exhaust as well as a pedal Commander. I'm plenty pleased with my results and for anyone who says it's a waste of money I'll simply say this... I hated the way my stock 4R drove. I felt like it couldnt get out of it's own way and all it did was hesitate and have to wind up everytime I stepped on the gas. That is no longer the case. It no longer drives like an ice cream truck - it flat out moves when I ask it to

What is this "top intake cover"? I also run the TRD intake. However as it is a sealed & designed system, I don't see why you would change that?
If you are drawing air in from the engine bay, I don't see that being a positive (less energy in warm air.
I am not knocking what works for you. I just don't get this part. I love my noise maker! Lol
@2016Pro is just pissed it didn't come stock in the pro! Lol Why the upgrade hate?

There is a pic above that shows what I was referring to as someone else commented similarly... with the AFE setup the factory air source remains the same - via the fender. There is a also a 2nd air source available should anyone feel inclined to utilize it. I use it. If the tone coming from the motor utilizing the factory air box is a 1... the tone with the AFE is a 5 with the top plug in and an 8 with the plug out. The difference is night and day

This is the same for the S&B intake as well. I also leave it open. It’s on the backside by the fender intake opening.

I misunderstood the fact that you are running an AFE intake, I thought you had a TRD. There is no such option for this on the TRD intake system.
I am now very curious how our T4R would run with the pedal commander & URD module?
That is all I would ever do unless the word Magnuson was included! Lol too rich for my blood. 300 WHP sounds great though!

    Edit for spelling.

That is the exact setup and I love it. Based on short around town driving I am seeing an increase in mileage. Driving out to Borrego this weekend. Will have more details then. The throttle response and power is way better. Butt dyno is loving it. I was amazed at how much better my MF exhaust sounds after the intake install. The URD is just icing on the cake. Before the URD and intake I kept the PC in Sport mode.... after the intake and URD I am back down in city.

    Hi John,

The Pedal Commander arrived in yesterday's mail and I installed it last night when I got in from work. First impressions are positive. The install is dead simple and the results are quite startling in that the 4Runner is now much more responsive.

I played around with various settings on a quick test run around the neighborhood and, for the moment, have it set on City +3. I may decrease to City +2 for everyday, around town driving. Time will tell.

As some of the naysayers have pointed out, this device does nothing to actually increase horsepower or torque. It does however, completely eliminate the rather annoying lag of the factory set accelerator.

While I can understand the position of those who say, "Why pay $300 for the pedal commander when you can just press harder on the gas pedal?" I have to say that, in my opinion, there's a bit more to it than that. Even when 'mashing the gas' there is still a very perceptible delay from the time the pedal is pushed further until the engine responds. The pedal commander simply deletes that delay, giving the driver more immediate access to the available power of the engine.

Based solely on the 'eco' light, or absence thereof, from what I have seen thus far I am fairly certain that there will be no gain in gas mileage while using this device in anything above economy mode.

So far, I'm happy with it. Looking forward to a road trip up the NC mountains to see if there's any change in performance while climbing those hills. I'll keep you posted.
