How to properly lift new 5th gen

Hey guys, about a month into owning a new SR5 prem and I’m getting ready for a lift. I’m the kind of guy who want me to know exactly how things work and want to do this right the first time and not screw up anything since my rig is so new.
I’ve been reading the forums on lifting and looking at the toytec boss. Since my 4R is so new do I need to buy anything else along with this lift package? The kit has a 0-3” lift option. Should the front be higher than the rear or vice versa? I know it’s a long post but I just want to make sure I do this right.

A lot of people like to "level" their truck. This is usually based on a measurement from the center of your wheel hubs up to the bottom of the fender. From the factory, the rear will be an inch or inch and a half higher than the front so that when you have weight in the back of the truck, you're not "nose high" (with headlights pointing up into the sky).

You can see this "rake" when looking at the vehicle from the side. The rear end is higher. Some people like that look. Some want the truck to look more "level". So they "level" their truck. Meaning, the distance is the same from hub center to bottom of fender in both front and rear.

This is a problem for those that frequently carry weight in the back of the truck, as your headlights will be blinding other drivers. That's why a majority of people like a little rake (rear end an inch higher than the front).

Personally, I'm not that concerned with my truck looking level. I like having some rake so the back end isn't sitting lower than the front when I'm carrying a load, which I do frequently.

 

I have mine lifted with a Toytec Ultimate. I have a slight front rake which is my preference for practical purposes (weight carrying) and for looks.

 

How difficult were those wheel stickers to put on

 

Not really hard, just time consuming. Took me about an hour, but I was very meticulous. You put them on wet and they will slide around until you have them just where you want them. Then press the excess water/soap solution off with paper towel and they are there.

 

There are as many opinions on lifting as there are lifts available and uses for these lifts. The best recommendation I've seen is use your 4R as is and build it to fit whatever you find you need to do and it can't do with the stock setup.

 

My only 2 cents if you want to do it "right" avoid spacers.

 

How many inches lift in front and rear?

 

About 2 1/2" all the way around keeping the original rake.

 

Does anyone know the torq specs are for all the components that you'd have to loosen/take off and then back on? Assuming one does the lift/level themselves.

I used this video for the front of my 3rd gen tacoma and also for my 4runner.

You might want to research the rear of the 4runner as i closed the web pages on my phone after the install.

Even though its for a spacer lift he does mention all of the tourque specs.

 

The air gun I used didn't have torque settings so I didn't care about the torque settings....all good so far. I did torque the lug nuts to 85 ft.lbs. however. YMMV

Will cost a few bucks, but we'll worth it. Just make sure you have plenty of ink and paper for the printer.

Related to a level. 4wparts installed the front level today and I went to adjust the headlights just now. I've never been under the front of the runner till now. They left at least 4 bolts out that I can see. Does it look like I'm missing anything down here? Like a skid plate or something Just curious thanks

 

Also look at the upper control arm, looks like something snapped off and rusted up. It's on both sides top and bottom. Never noticed and just wanna make sure it's not goofed up, thanks

I know how to turn a wrench, I was being sarcastic to your smart Alec reply. Time is money and this week it was money well spent to finish the level. Made enough money today to pay for the level x 10
Now, any idea if they left something off the front of my runner? If not please don't reply again. If no one knows, no biggie I'll stop by the dealer tomorrow and look.

It looks like the back of the plastic "radiator" guard has some missing bolts unless they are under the plastic??? Also the second pic with the upper control arm is completely normal, nothing "snapped off"
