Hello. I am just curious if anyone else has had issues with their hoods flying open when you are driving? This has happened to me 3 times in the past 24 hours. I don't know what has happened. My 2008 SR5 4Runner has never done this before. The hood seems like it latches just fine but 3 times now in the past day it has flown open while I was driving. Does anyone have any experience with this? I am guessing I need a new hood latch but it really feels quite secure when I close the hood. Could it be the cable? Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

Is the cable releasing back all the way when you let go the hood latch on the inside? Maybe the springs on the latch are toast.

I can use the full weight of my body (and I am not a small human!) to try and force the hood open and it does not budge. The latch release does not feel loose in any way. I am perplexed by this whole thing.

Well honestly the last thing I would want is the hood flying open on me while driving. I'd replace the whole latch to be safe.

Maybe try to also clean behind the lever inside might look closed but it maybe it physically isn't.

I guess that is what I will have to do. It just seems so strange that this started out of the blue and it feels so secure when it is closed.

I checked behind the lever, no debris.

Thanks for your input, I appreciate it.

LEDs all around, otherwise bone stock.
Check your cable, eg not rusted, loose or frayed. Grease latch and make sure it can move the way it is supposed to. Cant say I've seen this before though.

    This may help with ideas...

I'm pretty sure at this point it is definitely the latch. I tried closing the hood this morning and it will not close any longer. The cable seems fine.

Cable-tie time until you can get the latch replaced.
