What are your intended uses for the rack/basket? Yakima makes the load warrior, mega warrior and I think now a slim line warrior style basket. These all mount to the existing roof rack cross bars (if you have them)

Here’s a pic of my 4R with the mega warrior I had before I opted for the ARB touring rack.BDEB78E1-E220-433F-86BA-FE0F305553D2.jpg

@4X4Runner , how was the megawarrior for wind noise, and what did you think of the quality?

I have a Thule MOAB, but I would like a little more space.

It really is hard to decide, it's all about what you'll be using it for, I started with a ROLA V-Tex Rooftop Cargo Basket on the OEM cross bars, Low Profile and fit in the garage and loved it, then I got a roof top tent and moved to Yakima cross bars and Artec Ind. cross bars (strong and a lot of cargo options when the tent isn't on), I like the factory look when the tent isn't on.

You could hear it, even with the wind deflector. It wasn’t too bad and I usually just tune it out or turn the radio up some more. It’s not a noise that gets under my skin like other noises so it wasn’t an issue for me.

Quality was pretty good. I had the extension with it too and it was fricking massive. I sold it to a friend who has a Subaru and she loaded it to the hilt with gear and her cross country trip and had no complaints about it

Trail4runner is lame, but I guess that's a good enough list to get you started.

There's basically two schools of thought: Gobi and similar fab'd racks that cost a lot, or Yakima and similar generic baskets that are cheaper. I'm sure you get what you pay for but for me, the cheaper basket style is perfect. I want to haul some extra stuff, not have a sniper roost or a RTT substructure. I think the basket really shines if you don't leave it up there all the time - only when you need it. Set the mounts up the first time, dab a little paint where they go, and then you can just drop the basket on in 2 minutes and be ready to rock.

Yakima Loadwarrior w/ extension (I think the Megawarrior is too wide for the 4R, personally). Etrailer.com is the place to buy.

Well I think all the generic fit baskets are out then, there's none that are full roof length.

I can’t speak to Thule but the Yakima Mega Warrior with extension is around 6’ long and, Yakima makes a hi-lift mount and spare tire mount for the Load Warrior and Mega warrior.

As for the kayak, I’d have to research what mounts would work with those two roof baskets

Get the Gobi if you want a full length, basket style rack. It's pricey, but it's a good quality rack.

Just know it will take a while to get.........most likely longer than they estimate. So long as you're patient, you will be fine.

Is anyone running the Yakima Offgrid basket? I like the look of it. I'd love to hear some feedback from someone who has used one.

Sorry to keep hijacking this thread. But, maybe useful to the OP as well.:)

It looks too "low profile". IMO the purpose of a basket is to keep your shit in it, which is generally facilitated by having taller sides. I actually got rid of an otherwise decent RockyMounts basket because it was too low profile. Good for looks, pointless for use.

I guess it depends on how you use it. I intend to keep my traction boards and hi-lift up there (in some sort of case, which I haven't figured out yet). I also want to be able to put a kayak on top, so the adjustable cross bars on top seem like a perfect solution.

I saw those when I was looking at the load warrior and mega warriors. They look nice.
Like the Gobi or Baja Racks? Those have a pretty low profile design.

I just saw an N-fab basket rack in person yesterday. It looked really good. If I'm honest, its probably all I need, but I still really like the look of the Gobi.

Anyone have any experience with the N-fab rack?

Ung. We had opposite thoughts, then. Someone around here has one and it looks like shit. Opinions vary, I guess.

Really? Clean lines, low profile, no gaps between the side rails. What's not to like?

Which basket rack looks good to you?

Well, I pulled the trigger on the Yakima Offgrid large basket and an extension. I'll post pics Thursday or Friday after its installed and try to give some feedback.

It's too angular. Looks like some kids at metal shop built it with scrap.

They all look dumb, honestly, but the Yak looks about the best to me; and it's functional in ways that some of the others aren't due to its depth. To recap, I only have mine up there when I am on a trip and am using it, otherwise it's in the garage rafters.

I assembled and installed the "offgrid" basket today.

It seems sturdy, and was easy to assemble. Installing was quick and easy. I'm happy about that, as I don't intend to leave it on the truck year-round.

I like the cross bars on top. I can fit the maxsas right in underneath. I don't know if there will be enough room to fit whatever case I end up getting for the hi-lift, but, worst case I can put it on top of the cross bars.

The extension should arrive tomorrow, so I'll add that in and try to decide if it's too big with it.

I'll add more feedback once I actually strap some gear up there and go for a good drive.

Another Option for you, but you may not like.
I’m currently using a “THULE Canyon XT Cargo Basket” mounted on stock roof rails & cross bars until I save up enough money to purchase a GOBI full length Ranger. I found it on my local Craigslist and paid $125 brand new still in box and it’s not noisy at all. Purchased the travel bag and spider bungee for a little under $40 …… it will work for my needs for now.
