Hello all!! Just got a white ‘18 4R and I am so pumped to be apart of the Yota gang finally!!! First thing I wanted to do was plasti dip the emblems. Well that was a fail, and I decided I didn’t want to deal with it ever peeling off anyways.
Soooo I’ve got some overlays coming in the mail.
    My question is:
Is there any time of adhesive glue I should use along with the provided 3M backing on the overlay? I worry about the Texas heat this summer melting them off, or the car wash being the next villain. I also don’t want residue left if I ever decide to part with the overlays.

    Thanks in advance!
Also I did search to see if this was already answered ;)

Welcome, and i have had mine on for a year in well over 100* weather with no problems. The tape that is supplied is pretty darn good, car wash is no problem. I did wipe the letters to be covered with rubbing alcohol before installing.

Just the answer that I needed! I appreciate the response. Wasn’t sure about the tape quality.

    Welcome buddy!

They also sell the tape by the rolls. I got some at Advanced Auto and used it to tape down the molding under the roof rails on my coworker's 4Runner. Stuff was like an instant hold, no pulling up and readjusting. Then I tried using it to attach a cheap phone holder I bought to the center console and it gave way after an hour. Depends on the surface really. I'm confident the stuff will hold up on the badges, especially if you wash you rig first and then wipe them down with alcohol. I would stick to around 70% on the alcohol though. You may consider applying them in the evening and in the garage if you have that option. Just so they can set up for a good 8-10 hours before the Texas heat starts baking them.

I'm hoping to throw mine on this weekend if I get my wheels installed. I basically painted mine like three times after the first two cans of paint weren't the factory matched color I ordered. So I had to prep them three times for paint and I am a little worried that all the prep work I did, washing/de-greasing, may have worked it's way under the red backing. Then I prepped them again since I waited a week before I added my clear coat which was required for the type of paint I used. Then prepped them one more time once I decided to match the clear coat finish of what's going to be on my wheels. So that's about five baths and rinses...and none of the red backing on the tape has lifted. If all goes well I'll post pictures on the main forum after everything is installed. Sounds dumb but I am treating these badges like the cherry on the sundae since the badging on the wheels I had powder coated are going to match all the overlays.

gets pretty hot and sunny here in Florida. I've had the Toyota plastic overlays on my front/back logos as well as TVD Vinyl overlays on the back lettering and c column since 2019. no issues whatsoever
