You will need a 3/8"s drive socket wrench to use the oil filter wrench, yes

yep. I'm not an expert myself, but my brother is a petroleum engineer who worked for Mobil for 20 something years and still does consulting. He has always said the exact thing you say here regarding oil. He was also doing oil changes at no less than 6k miles long before that became 'cool".

A 10k oci on the 4.0L is going to be perfectly fine unless you do a lot of heavy towing and/or off-roading. These aren't high-output, high-revving engines with turbos where the oil runs super hot.

At 70 mph on the highway, mine runs right at 2000 rpm - very much like a diesel.

One guy said his 4Runner has no issues at 25k on its 3rd or 4th oil change? What a waste.

Everyone always talks about when to change the oil 5000, 10,000 miles. What about the oil filter it's got to be getting more restrictive and not as efficiently flowing oil like ones changed at 5,000 miles.....No???

Toyota designs the filter for at least 10k miles. Lots of filters can go 15k miles.
