5th Gen full audio install log

Thank you to all of you on here who posted build logs, as they really helped me research this project.

The components:
Pioneer AVH-W4400NEX
Maestro RR
JL RD 900/5
Hertz MPK 165.3 Pro
Alpine S-W8D2 8” sub
Scosche EFX cables

I installed the Headunit and Maestro about 6mos ago, and couldn’t be happier.

Front:
The Hertz tweeter brackets fit the factory dash brackets without modification.

Mids were installed using the Fast Rings kit to direct sound into the cabin. Dynamat applied to the inside and outer door skin. I need to add more to the inside plastic panel to further isolate expected rattles.

Both speakers are running active using the Pioneer headunit in network mode where the crossover points and slopes are selectable.

Amp:
Located under the passenger seat with 3pairs of RCAs from headunit. Plenty of room for wiring and clearance. Will set mid/high using the 1k sine wave and 50k sine wave files from JL. Then autoEQ Pioneer for now. DSP likely to come later.

Sub:
I chose the Alpine 8” to replace the factory one for now. Most 8” subs of this depth can’t handle the power output of this amp even at 4ohm (250w), so this was a good choice until I build or buy a new fiberglass box.

I plan to add significant amount of Roadkill to the factory box to further deaden, plus foam inside to reduce the volume closer to .5 cu ft.

Disnt know that any other radios from pioneer had network mode. Good to know

 

Hey man that’s a dope install but how did you bypass the JBL amp ?? I’ve been searching online for a bypass harness :/

 

While I enjoyed the first install, I decided to make several changes since the original.



1) Swapped the JL for an AudioControl D6.1200 and LC1.800 with an AudioFrog GB12D4 in a pre-fab 1.0cuft box. While the D6.1200 was a good amp, the DSP is not parametric, which isn’t a deal-breaker for some. It does have 31 bands, but doesn’t allow the fine tuning of a Helix DSP. After realizing I wanted more, I decided to make one final set of changes:

2) Helix V Eight (8x75w) with internal DSP, AudioFrog GS25 in the dash, and GB60s in the doors. Based on guidance from AudioFrog owner Andy, I’m using the GS25s as widebands. He says they can be used in this configuration well given the windshield dispersion. They are running active at 350hz and up with 24db/octave crossovers. GB60 plays 80hz to 350, and GB12D4 at 60hz and down. Doors have multiple layers of Dynamat Xtreme on the outer panel, plus Soundskinz Pro on the inner skin. Fast rings of course.

For the amp mounts, wiring improvements, and tuning, Erick Markland Designs. It really sounds fantastic. Love the AudioFrog GS25s in the dash. Very reasonable price and worth every penny. NOTE: You will need an adapter on the 5th gen right side. It will not properly bolt to the factory mount.

 

Hey man, I really hope you see this cause I’d love to hear back from you. Was curious if you had any pics of how you mounted the JL RD900 amp under the seat. I know you got rid of it, but that’s the amp I’m about to mount. I have a 1/2 sheet of ABS. I’m wondering how I can secure it under the carpet. I don’t want to screw anything in the the body. Was almost thinking on using industrial Velcro…or something. How did you do that particular amp?
