    Hello All,

First time forum user! I am a novice and was hoping for some quick assistance from some experienced owners. I am looking to purchase a 2006 SR5 V6 4WD 140k miles and it passed the eye test and drive test. Not even a lick of surface rust. However, the check engine and VSC lights were on so I had an inspection done. The mechanic sent a long list (13) of codes over: P0012, C1271-C1278, C1281-C1283.

Now he explained that the P0012 could be the Valve timing, OCV, Camshaft timing gear assy, ECM. He said worst case I would be looking to replace the ABS (I think) which is costly, but said he tested the ABS on gravel and drove the car and believes its most likely a false sensor. He tried to reset the codes, but it came back. The remaining codes he listed meanings and stated that there has to be a loose wire tripping for there to be that many codes showing for no apparent reason.

My questions for you all of you guys are:

    1. Anyone experienced any of these? If so, what was the final outcome?
    2. Should I be worried about buying?

Any explanations or previous stories would be much appreciated!

I'd pass. Why buy something with issues? Google the codes to see what they are.

I googled through them and most have stated they are no big deal. However, I am out of my element with cars/engines.

I have been on the hunt now for about 5 months for a 4th gen under 150k and this one at $7K is well under majority of the others. Just hopeful that someone on the forum has had a similar issues in the past.

    Thanks!

One bad sensor can set others out of their intended ranges and cause them to set off codes. When I was a mechanic you learned to take the first one it is the most important get it fixed and a lot of the time it will take care of the rest. If not clear the codes and see which ones come back and take care of the first one until none comes back.

If hes a mechanic and it was easy fixes he would fix the issues then try to sell it.

Not to mention he said "could" be this or that. Playing with fire if you ask me.

Im sorry, reading back my initial post I believe I misrepresented what is going on.. The individual selling the vehicle is not the mechanic. The mechanic was just brought in for the inspection.

I'd pass too. If person selling it is too lazy to get this fixed before selling it then they are too shady to tell you what else is wrong with it.

If you still want it though just low ball the hell out of them. You're justified in doing so with all the possible repairs. I mean it's what Mike would do.

I'm all for low balling and having it as a toy.

If you think it's cheap money it is for a reason. Can you even sell one with all those codes?

Mike would buy it and "Ant" would have it running flawlessly in two hours. That guy's amazing.

Have to agree with 2016Pro. I have 150,000 miles on my V6 2005 4runner, and owned since new - and never had a code tripped in 14 years.
