The ole 5th gen gas milage thingy

I've been in a billion "what does your 4 runner get milage wise" posts/threads, that are all through this site. I came to accept 15-16., and was fine with that.
I've got about 30k on my 18. Something has change . This is my 5th or so tank, seeing these average numbers. Break in, whatever, it has improved , and for the better. No, I still drive it like I stole it. No change there.
No, not earth shattering,... but I'll take it. Cheers all.

 

That is hopeful... however, I got back into the 4Runner with the understanding that it is a thirsty old girl... LOL!

 

My combined has stayed around 20 since I got it. I’ve only got 6k or so on it now and I’m hoping it stays this way

 

Still 20.5 with only under 6,000 miles so far. I don't drive it like "granny" but don't beat on it either.

 

Mine hasn't gone over 17mpg and its all stock lol

 

Find a new gas station??

 

Summer air is hotter and less dense than winter air, so that might have something to do with it. The 4Runner is like a large toaster oven in terms of aerodynamics.

 

Optimum combustion occurs at 72.5 degrees F. And the less ethanol produces more horsepower at lower RPM with increased emissions. A lean condition will create more NOX....

 

So far, have 1800 miles on the vehicle, overall average is now up to 19.6 with mix of city and highway. Yesterday, drove up to the city and averaged 24.1 with speed at 70.
Very please so far, never had these numbers with my 2012 F-150.

 

I bought my 4runner to haul and crawl. Get a Prius if you want gas milage. Otherwise, enjoy the ride.

 

22,000 miles on mine. Calculated 17.2 mpg on my last tank.

 

With everything you have on yours I'm surprised you get that

 

2018 SR5 4WD, 11,100 miles-bought this new last October. I have never reset the MPG dash display, and it currently reads 19.3. I leave the MPG display on all the time. Early in the ownership, on a couple of occasions when I was low on gas (less than 1/4 tank) and had to make some type of sudden stopping, or evasive defensive driving maneuver, I'd noticed the MPG display would fluctuate quite a bit for quite some time before settling down. Anybody else ever have this happen?

 

30k on mine and I avg 20mpg.

 

If you want to know your real fuel consumption you need to record the actual data. Fuelly works well enough for that.

Everyone gets different mileage based on how you drive, the nature of your commute, the specific geography of your roads/inclines/did you dodge a dragon on the way to the grocery store, and the badassery/instagramonstrousity of your build adding about 5 tons to your gross weight.

For me I got just under 18mpg in my LE and it dropped to 17.5 when I switched from stock 20" HT to 17" AT

 

Quick comparison to a 2011 pathfinder I purchase new back in the day...…..the Nissan computer always showed I was getting a tad over 20 mpg on the highway. I liked to compare my odometer changes with the mile markers along the interstate and saw that I was consistently flipping to the next mile on my odometer 50-75 yards ahead of reaching the marker. Radar speed detection devices along city speed zones regularly had me traveling a couple of mph less than what my speedometer was showing. So I guess my mileage and mpg were inflated a bit in the Nissan. I never mentioned this to the dealer as I had planned to drive the pathfinder as long as it would go. According to the sketchy odometer, I drove that pathfinder for 151K problem free miles otherwise before giving to my son.

One of the first things I do now in a fresh ride is do the mile marker test on the interstate and the 4runners have always been spot on. So I feel a lot better about the 19.3 mpg display on my 4runner than the 20+ I was getting on the pathfinder.

 

This is my average last week from Atlanta to Cumberland Gap, VA. Yes, I drive like a Grandpa too. Lots of Troopers out giving invitations to pay extra for not staying at the speed limit. I've got a bright white 2018 SR5 with 20,000 miles.
