I have a 2011 4Runner Trail that sports the stock red and white tail lights. I'm curious if I buy a set of newer stock tail lights (the chrome/black ones), they should fit, right?

Thanks Todd. I'm not sure I want to get into rewiring! Anyone have any recommended aftermarket tails?

I can't personally speak to the interchangeability of these units, but the Tacoma's taillights interchange between early 2nd gen incandescent and later 2nd gen with LED. There will be no "electrical" issues with LED v incandescent bulb, especially not going from incandescent to LED since the LEDs are vastly more efficient. At worst the 4R's connectors won't mate, but I suspect they will.

I guess find a 2014+ owner who is willing to spend 10 minutes experimenting and try a temporary swap, or by a junky cracked unit on Ebay and test it out before buying a new pair.

image.jpg image.jpg They will fit. You will need the adapter harness depicted above. You can reuse two of three bulbs which plug into the harness. I bought the tail lights and two harnesses via a kit. I found this on eBay sold by Daytona Toyota. Price was $466 shipped. I received the kit today and installed it on my 2013 Trail Edition.

I know you can buy aftermarket ones off eBay or Amazon for much less not sure of the quality though

TYC are direct plug and play on the '10-'13 based on these part numbers pictured. The most important numbers in the series are 00 and not 01. The 00 signifies that no harness is needed.

I just installed this taillights that i bought on ebay. It says only for 2014 to 2019 but after looking at the pics and saw all the harness are the same. So purchased it anyways. And when it got here. Fit on my 2011 with no cutting wires.

Is it possible to go the other way? I’d like to put the ‘10-‘13 red/white tails in a newer 5th gen.
