I know Toyota does not warranty any of their vehicles to be used as a towed vehicle, but we intend on using our 91 as such. We have a 35ft Bluebird Wanderlodge that we will be traveling across the US in shortly and intend to use our 4x4 Runner as our tow. We are looking into putting manual locking hubs on it so we can disengage the axles and tow it safely.

Anyone else use their Runner in this capacity?

I would also look into removing the rear driveshaft.

Yep, might look at a Remco disconnect for the rear, thanks. :)

You might know this already but, the ability to back up a towed (4-down) vehicle is greatly reduced.
My wife and I tow our 5th Gen or our TJ on a 14' car trailer. It's easier to maneuver around at gas stations and parking lots.
I'm a retired Equipment Operator/10-wheel driver, so backing up is second nature.
Most RV Parks have 50' pull-throughs or a storage area for the trailered vehicles.
When boon-docking or dry camping, there is little to no concern where to park.
The initial cost of buying a trailer, tags and maintenance, could/might be the same as the purchase of a tow bar & base plate, safety chains, hubs, Remco, battery disconnect, wiring of/or tow lights and tires.
Regardless get out and travel about.
    Be safe.

PS. When we owned a Rav4 Sport, front drive, we used a Master Tow tow dolly. I had to think ahead when dragging that thing through a gas station lot.
And we don't need it any more so it's for sale too.

Thanks, with a big 16 ton 35ft bus, we don't do much backing anyway. We already have a BlueOx heavy duty tow bar and don't need a base plate since our Gen 2 has a chassis. Already installed the tow hooks to the frame. Still need to get the tow lights and she is ready to go.
