With the price of gas going somewhat on a upward climb, does buying a 2019 4runner make sense , or not please note I don't drive that much to and from work .

Nobody can answer this we all have our own tolerance for the price of gas.

If you're worried about the price of gas, a 4Runner might not be your best option.

That being said, the fuel economy of other similar vehicles (light trucks and other BOF vehilces) is pretty similar.

Gas prices are supposed to drop after memorial day.......but that will remain to be seen.

That's good first and foremost , my commute isn't that much anyways 260 miles a week , and the odd drive up into the country , so not bad at all .

Think you need to work the other way.

How much can you pay/afford a week to fill up? Then find a vehicle that can fit your needs if its that big of a deal. I honestly never thing of gas being a deal breaker. If money is that tight where gas can make or break you buying a vehicle you are already looking at the wrong one.

Maybe consider a Highlander? Similar in size and much more efficient. Its plenty capable of unpaved non-rock crawling off-roading and trails.

Highlander is not that much more fuel efficient honestly.

Wifes 2015 Highlander gets 19.7MPG according to the dash. I'm getting 18.3 on the 4R with lift and 285's.

The 2015 is the old engine and trans that’s less efficient. The 2017+ has direct injection with a few more gears in the trans. Also once you change the tire size your speedometer is off to some degree which makes an apples to apples comparison of the dash mpg value impossible. Not that they are very accurate to begin with.

Well, one goes into the 4Runner accepting there are certain amenities and MPG you give up.... So if you are worried about gas.... If I get 350 miles out of the tank... I am stoked...

I'm not using my dash display on my 4R.

Newer Highlander doesn't have shockingly better mpg numbers. Still not the greatest if you ask me but we didn't buy it because mpg was a concern. Someone just mentioned it was much more efficient. Its more efficient but not much more.

I seem to be the the minority here but I think the Highlander gets much better mpg’s than the 4Runner. My 4Runner averaged 20 lifetime (37k mostly highway and towing), my wife’s Highlander averaged 25 lifetime (29k mostly back roads) and my Corolla averaged 33 lifetime (30k mostly highway-commuter). The Highlander is almost in between the two in terms of gas mileage which I find interesting. That comes to 100 gallons a gas a year less in the Highlander based on 10k a year. I love my 4Runner and plan to keep it a long time but the Highlander is a better everyday vehicle. Unless of course if you Offroad or tow regularly. Now will an extra 100 gallons of gas kill you financially...no...but it’s significant.

I honestly don't think that the fuel mileage is all that bad on the 4runner

I second this. My wifes old Ford Edge got like 16ish city driving and about 21 highway. My 4runner has a 3" lift and 33" tires, and still gets a decent 18ish mpg mostly highway driving. Depends on how you drive though, what your goals witha vehicle are, etc. Its very personal. Highlanders to me are a bit soulless, but theyll def get better gas mileage than most other SUVs. Or get a CUV like the Rav4, Mazda CX-5, etc. if you want a car like ride and mileage with SUV like space inside.
