Hi,

Thanks for accepting me. Happy owner of a used white 05 Runner SR5 with 174k miles a month ago from a small used car dealer in Sacramento.

However:
I'm taking it for minor tune up to toyota dealer hoping they'll discover where the leak (from engine) is since water from coolant reservoir need refill weekly. Note: No leak from radiator/hose.

A bit disappointed with this engine since problem like this (leak) can't be detected when buying a used ride because you need to drive for a week to discover this problem. Thought this toyota engine is a bullet lol.

 

Congratulations on your new T4R.
Have a few questions without trying to hijack the thread.
There was a chart of interference & non interference engines out there that I have been looking for to no avail.
Could the timing chain or belt (not that familiar yet) failure could have caused it?
170k miles appears to be low for a 4.0 lifespan.
Improper maintenance maybe...
Either way, get her fixed & enjoy. They are a blast!

It had some relevance to the topic but I wasn't trying to steal or take over the thread.
The chart may help explain your engine failure also.

Update:
May 8, 2019 Took my runner to Yota Stealer shop wants to open and see, 2700 for tear down and putting all back together, I said no.

May 9, 2019 Small shop did a pressure check and chemical test. Can't find a leak so pressummed inside the chamber? Estimate for rebuild is whooping 4k ahhhh..

My 3rd party warranty I paid to cover for 6 months will contribute for just 1k. The dealer is willing to take it back and replace another vehicle but this hard to find runner with third row seating is hard to find. Thinking thinking thinking.....
