3k RPMs normal?

    Hi! I have a second gen 4runner that just got some transmission work done. Its running great on city roads but once on the highway she downshifts to 3rd gear and the RPMs stay at about 3000 while doing 65 or so. Is it normal for her to run at 3k RPMs?

    She has days where she goes into 4th on the highway and the rpms will stay a little below 2000 at about 80 MPH. Some days in 4th she will downshift to 3 and have the issues I mentioned before.

    3 months minimum. She’s running a lot better than before the work was done but she has that one thing I don’t really like

    Idk man, I have a 92 3.0 5sp and I'm 5th gear on the freeway I'm at 3k rpm at 65mph. It really sucks

    It really does suck. When she’s in the right gear she runs amazing. When she’s At high revs I feel like the engines gonna blow.

    At 65 mine is at 3k also. Has always been that way.

    Mine is the same, 3000-3300 in traffic 65-70 mph. Not long ago I got behind a big ole ford on the backside of MT Potosi and stayed with him all the way into Pahrump, 95 mph at 4300 rpm. That’s in 5th gear. .

    It doesn't sound like you have a major issue. Keep in mine its a 3.0 and stock its way low on power so it downshifts to maintain speed. Its pretty typical on the stock 3.0's with automatic trans. After my engine rebuild with improvements it is much better but with my RTT on and pulling a trailer it will downshift from overdrive to maintain 65.
    My guess is that it's normal.

    Rebuilt Engine MLS and ARP on the heads, DT Header, 2-1/2" CARB compliant Flow-Master CAT with 2.0" Bosal CAT back Dayco 1-1/4" Spacers, SkyJacker M-Series Monotube Shocks, Ball Joint Spacers. 95-9006 K&N Air Cleaner, G-Plus Alum Radiator, ZIrgo 16" Fan, Derale Temp switch/relay
    Also remember this is only a 3.0 L engine and it has single valve heads. When PPI was experimenting with this engine in the mid 80's it was all high revving horsepower that allowed Ivan Stewart to gain his notoriety for Toyota. I am always driving mine between 3K and 4K and often find this engine really comfortable at 3,500 in fifth gear doing around 75-80 MPH. The home spun massaged heads and matched intake porting with stock valves along with the DT headers, Flowmaster FX and HP-2 mufflers and with 2.50" exhaust really allows this motor to rev comfortably and pull as well as can be expected up hills. My latest experience was two weeks ago heading for Mammoth mountain in CA at 7000 feet the grade out of Bishop on the 395 with a pretty decent load of stuff was third gear 4K and 55 MPH at the steepest grade. I was really wanting a 3.4 at that moment with some wide band O2 for altitude correction, etc!

    Ok runners. Here's an update or pre update. All my tranny shift up issues could be this or that...a very long list.
    Today I stated again thinking. This truck say for a long time and I found a couple wires that had signs of rodent gnawing. On top the transmission a large array of wires junction together. Just about every wire from tranny back all come together there. I could barely see....there were two wires sticking out. Alone and obviously were not supposed to be that way. I kept thinking maybe..just maybe those went to vehicle speed sensor#2.
    Guess what. The diagrams for my tranny show 4 wired sensors all over the case. The tranny in my truck has 5 sensors on just the drivers side and 2 more on the passenger side . I guess because it's the last batch in a year of transition to a new model...ifk. mines different.
    Those wires do go to VSS#2 . I FIXED THE WIRES. ALONG WITH A SHINNY NEW FUEL TANK. NEW INJECTORS NEW THIS AND THAT TOO... TOMORROW I WILL HAVE THE TRUCK RE ASSEMBLED.
    IM EXCITED!!!
