CDFEBA00-E78F-4688-8B99-3BC726134FE3.jpg This is my first 4 wheel drive vehicle and I’m learning as I go. Barely figured out the 4 wheel drive selection system and was terrified by the strange noises it made. If you could give me a rundown of the essentials I would be forever grateful. I fell in love with this thing the first time I saw one. Help me better understand it for maximum enjoyment. Thank you

Thank you very much for the info. Any quick warnings or maintenance tips to pass along? I’m content on keeping it mostly stock but any must have yet low impact mods you can recommend?

    Welcome and so it begins!

I’m not sure what you used but the Crawl control and Multi Terrain select are noisy due to the constant actuation to minimize slip on the wheels (used to get you out of it through situations where a slipping wheel needs to be stopped by brakes)

Normal 4WD Hi shouldn’t be noisy but also shouldn’t be used on dry pavement or when unnecessary due to binding of the drive line in turning.

4WD Low should be engaged when the 4R is completely stopped, the gear selector in neutral and then the 4WD shifter is moved from 4WD Hi to neutral and into 4WD Low, then shift the gear selector into drive or sport mode to hold a gear. If you’re not stopped when engaging 4WD Low you’re going to hear gears grinding.

These are notorious for front end nose dive under heavy braking so a suspension upgrade may be something to look into. But, with that generally comes new and more aggressive tires.

When you decide to start modifying (which everyone does here at some point) here are a few suggestions:

Lift: Avoid spacers. Dobinson and Eibach lifts are highly rated on here and for very reasonable prices. If you go coilovers, you can't go wrong with Fox, King, or Ads. Don't go for some cheap coilover, it's not worth it.

Tires: A mild A/T tire will get you through a lot of varying offroad conditions and perform well on the pavement too. Lot's of opinions on brands out there. Pick whatever fits your needs best. E-rated tires will be the stiffest and P-rated will be the softest. C-rated seems to be a good compromise for most.

Performance: Not much out there that will yield noticeable results except for a supercharger. Very expensive, but worth it to some people. Air intakes, exhaust, and the infamous pedal commander don't do anything to actually boost power. Chips don't really exist for our vehicles either.

Im about to stuff a supercharger in my GTO so I’m just going to enjoy the 4Runner as is performancewise for the foreseeable future. I’m probably going to drop in a K&N filter just for ease of clean.

I am very interested in roof storage, fuel storage, Jack mounting, and spare tire mounting. This is all foreign to me so any recommendations in that department would be great as well. Thank you

Nobody claims that the PC boosts power. Just quicker pedal response. It will get you moving quicker than you think. But I only say that because I use it and have it.

I believe they are Tokico shocks. That's what came off my 2018 SR5P and I think the same are on the 2019 OR.

I was told by the dealer that our '19 TRD ORP came with Bilstein shocks.
I believe I saw their logo on the shock (@ 6'4" it isn't easy!
I will snap a pic when she gets home.

Apparently the salesman is clueless per usual. No offense, it seems they only know the basics. I usually know more.
    Anyhow.
Not sure if he was thinking about the old Pro's before they got Fox. But I certainly don't have Bilstein shocks.
Unless a German company started printing in Japanese...
They are not a labeled name brand.

    Apparently Tokico is the brand!
Silly me. I thought it was a plant.
I am a new T4R owner. Did I say that! LMAO

    Was is the GSXR1000?
My buddy had a pearl white one in about '06.
    It was absolutely beautiful!
All the sizes are beautiful and one of the best bikes in my opinion!
    Pics of the GSXR?

Thankyou. I’m am very jealous of your SUV. But I know I can afford one in ten years maybe....I wouldn’t be surprised if Tokico was making the brake calipers now too...

The long & short of it...
The rates & terms on T4R's are never great. However, I might recommend seeing if you can get one before 2020. There is a lot more tech as standard features (in 2020) that you may not want.
Honestly, the only thing I miss from our Infiniti is the HID'S everything else in the truck is built better or upgradable!
This truck is amazing capable. I try to get yourself into one. Even on a lease!
Not sure if I stated it here. We have 2 other diesel trucks (94 Ram & 04 F-250).
First night test drive I put the T4R into 2ft of unplowed and frozen snow. Didn't even need 4l! Just used experience and walked it out.
    These are phenomenal trucks!
Dare I say it out drives my plow trucks...?
