So I’ve startrd off roading my 2010 Limited. It handled exceptionally well on the green/blue trail. However , I’m ready for bigger challenges.

I have swapped out the XREAS with Bilstein 5100s, added a skid plate and have rock sliders on order. Is it worth swapping out the stock 20” wheels with TRD PRO wheels and Nitto grappler tires ? It’s my toy, I don’t daily drive it. But just curious if the investment will be worth it.

    Thanks

The offroad rims would be better for off roading and you can get them cheaper by buying used as there are many for sale.

I’m in Delaware. Will the pro wheels /tires make me have a lower ride height vs the stock 20s?

No. So long as tire size is equivalent to what you were using with the 20”s

I don’t think so. I think the OE tire diameter is pretty close between trims.

Just be advised, the Pro rims are 7” unlike the OR rims which are 7.5”. If you decide to upgrade tire size most manufacturers won’t recommend 285’s on rims less than 7.5”

Let’s just say. Pro rims are nice and flashy. I’d hate to see you spend the $$ on them and get them scratched up on one of your trips.

I think wally and I are on the non pro camp regarding the wheels.

TuRD Pro wheels give the vehicle a wider overall wheel base than Off Road wheels. If you’re not going real wide with the tires they are fine.

What’s the offset on the Pro rims? And OR rims? I’m lazy and don’t feel like looking

It’s an insane experience and worth it. I’ve never said oh $h1t so many times within those 4 hours. Then again, it was my first time off road

The Pro (7x17) offset is 4, while the offset of the 20x7.5 stock Limited wheels is 15. There's the rub, so to speak, which occurs when most 265/70/17s are mounted on the TRS Pro wheels and then on the Limited. It's not a hug rub and I'm guessing a body shop could shave the fenders and leave them looking good, but there that is. The 245/75/17 tires on the TRD Pro wheels ... that combo ... turn out to be the same size as the OEM 20-inch wheel and Yokohama Geolandar G96B tires -- maybe 0.1 inch difference. You do lower the overall weight, which, in some forum posts is alleged to yield better handling, because the Geolandars weigh 36 lbs and the 20-inch OEM wheels weigh about 37 lbs; while the TRD Pro wheels are, I believe, 25 lbs, and you can find 275/75/17 tires (such as the Falken Wildpeak AT3Ws at 41 lbs) where the total weight (unsprung weight, which, again, is described as creating more stress on the vehicle than sprung weight, in some forum posts) adds up to less than the 73 lbs of the original Limited wheel and tire combo.

Help me understand this. The stock limited has 245/60/20s. The pros are usually mounted on 265/70/17.

You are saying the pros could rub on a limited ? Curious if this is true , as this setup results in both tires being the same height (31.6”) with the pro being 0.8 of an inch wider.

I tried it this weekend. They tried putting General Grabber ATX 265/70/17s on my 2019 Limited with TRD Pro wheels. They rubbed. I was surprised too. But try this. With the stock 20-inch setup, turn the wheels full turn. Get out and try to fit your hand between the tire's edge and the fender/wheelwell. Typically, the middle knuckle of your middle finger (which averages 0.75 inch, but obviously varies) won't fit. Anyway, lots of people have tried it, if you were to spend hours searching through the whole forum, only to discover that most (not all -- it's rumored that BF Goodrich's run narrow -- turns out that the Tire Association standard allows for as much of an inch of variability among tires with the same, for example, 265/70/17, spec) brands of 265/70/17s (with that almost 1 inch extra width) rub, because the stock setup comes very, very close to filling up the space. Most tire stores (I went to America's Tires) have a for-any-reason return policy with some number of days, so they don't balk at trying to fit the 265/70/17s you want and taking them off if they rub. It's not just the extra width. It's also that the offset of the 20-inch wheel is 15mm, while the offset of the TRD Pro wheel is 4mm. That, plus the extra width, causes the rub. You can get wheels that are 8 inches wide (e.g. The Ultra Bolt) with an offset closer to the stock 15mm, and one from American Racing (the 921, I think) that has the same 15mm offset. Then you can have those tires. I wanted the TRD wheels more than the 265 tires, so I stuck with 275/75/17 tires on TRD Pro wheels.
