An awesome option, regardless of price, to keep the rig on the road for another 20 years with no monthly payment.

Only people I know dailying 3rd gen 4Runners are Toyota mechanics with a spare parts vehicle in the back yard... Engine parts aren't the limiting factor right now.

The 5VZ-E is one of least problematic chunks on 3rd gens. 3rd gens need frames, brake lines and interior panels.

Only if you live in snow regions and refuse to undercoat. Outside of the salted-road areas, these frames are fine and when treated last longer than the cab panels. The interior bits are fine as long as one uses sun shades. In my observation a lot of Toyota owners are absolute lazy so-and-sos when it comes to protecting the interior. My wife refuses to use a sun shade for the windshield because "it slows her down" so our late 90s Camry has a cracked steering wheel top portion, and the driver door switch panel is detached. I am convinced if she could be bothered to use a sunshade since she parks the car outdoors all the time, the interior would be in better shape. But the cloth seats they used back then is some durable stuff, still looks new.

The paint, though, is another story.
