So I just got back from the dealer for my 25K mile service. My 4R is a 2023 SR5 Limited.

I asked if they could program the key fob to open the rear window. They put it in as a "window control program request". So now when I hold the unlock key, it rolls all the windows and sunroof down EXCEPT the rear window. Nothing I do can make the windows roll back up either. Is this a thing? Is there any way to program the keyfob to just roll down the back window but also roll it back up?

Also, we got into a discussion on oil changes. They're recommendations were an oil change every year or 10K miles. I thought this was too long and they said b/c it get's this super great synthetic oil that is so thin that it doesn't need changes every 6 months like the old oil. Said the engineers know what they're doing. Is this right? I'll generally will only drive my 4R about 6-8k miles a year since I don't live that far from work. What would you more seasoned friends recommend?

    Thanks in advance!

    Oooh look, another mod.....

I love a good oil change thread. Buckle up, OP. It's about to get interesting!

For the record, I'm a hard core 5k mile oil changer. Everytime I change the oil I also rotate the tires.

    Not possible from the factory.

Plenty of threads on this. I like 5K miles and wouldn't go 10K but many do and they're Runners are fine.

As far as I know 4runners with key fobs can only roll windows down. But I have a feeling you can use the backup key inside the key fob where you can roll both up and down when inserted to lock hole.

Older 4runners with actual key you can program to both windows down and up programmed with techstream when key is inserted to the lock hole. Roll down on unlock button.

You can look this on your service manual. You can download too. There are special conditions like driving on dirt roads that you are recomended to do 5000miles oil change.

Better to do mileage or time? As I mentioned I likely won't even hit 10k a year.

With the higher end synthetic it's quite expensive so I'd rather do once a year unless it's detrimental to the truck.

Toyota's website states "Every 7,500 - 10,000 miles or every 12 months. Whichever comes first."

In your case, you'd do it yearly. Whether you need to or not.

If you do your own oil changes take a look at Walmart. They’re oil prices are quite a bit less than the auto parts stores

Oil changes are cheap. I think I went to Toyota dealership till early 2024 and Oil change + Tire rotation are around $125 bucks. Now I go to Toyota/Lexus only independent shop and Oil change + Tire rotation are around $120 bucks. Per the bill they are using Toyota 0W20 oil along with other Toyota parts needed for oil change. I might have shared the bill in this forum. Since my tires are from Discount tire and I could even save around 25bucks doing tire rotations and discount tire and shop just do the oil changes.
