Alright, let's be honest; who here is considering a 6th gen?

Isn’t the chicken tax the reason that they started to make them here? Since it wasn’t worth importing them?

Note that I was talking about the Hilux. Why do you think then there is no Hilux production here, if the Tacoma has been produced in North America for over 30 years?

I’m not sure. But my guess is they decided to tailor a pickup for north american tastes while dealing with the american rules, like you mentioned?

What makes a modern hilux a hilux? Haven’t they basically shared the same architecture with the Tacomas over the years?

By the way, I’m not challenging you. Just curious, since I stopped paying attention to Hiluxes after this:

I had a 2WD version of this same year - 1979. I loved that truck, EXTREMELY reliable. Tires brakes and probably a battery and took all of the abuse I gave it with a Honda XR200R loaded in the back exploring the Sierras in and around Yosemite. Would love to have another one again.

I’m sure that the steering and front suspension components won’t last very long with those 37” tires too.

Ouch. The roads around here are terrible with potholes everywhere including the highways.

In Tacoma world when 4x4shop R4Ts new Tacoma both front and rear broke, Toyota dealership had said most likely Toyota will deny the warranty because of 35in tires (if I'm mistaken) and few other accessories like rooftop tent. So they got parts and fixed by themselves.

I finally stopped and looked at one today. The rear seat legroom looks awful. Unfortunately it was locked so I don’t know for sure where the front seats were positioned. But the size of the rear doors implied it wasn’t going to get substantially better either way.

Looks like 37 or 38s with about a 1" lift up front, definitely nothing special on the lift but the tires are stuffed. Hence why the rear door flare likely had to be removed.
That bumper seconds as a viper cut to allow the tires to turn without eating up the bumper. Not sure how they are clearing the fender..... BMC?
Guess we need to start digging into those builds and see how big they are getting and what it takes. Just for research purposes.

    Its that bad
5' 9" with 10.5 shoe and i hit my head getting in the back, had to turn my feet sideways, and have to angle my feet sideways to fit them in the floorboard.... AND hit my head getting out. The rear passenger needs to be a 4-10yo kid.

YES it will fit a full size person BUT they are not going to be overly comfortable. Your head sits MIGHTY close to the headliner above the door, its mighty bulky. Side airbag for passenger most likely but its big and wide and hangs down a LOT.

Yeah the 6th gen has noticeably less headroom…

I followed a white 6th gen Premium out of my neighborhood this morning.
Honestly, it looks ... um ... not so bad in person. I kinda want to figure out which neighbor it belongs to and go talk with them.

I'm not interested in getting one, but it'd be nice to be able to put a 5th and a 6th side-by-side for an in-person comparison.

I have seen one on the road so far, one, and it was in my neighborhood as well. It was a couple months ago and I haven't seen it since.

I thought it looked like a clown shoe with different teams having designing different areas of the vehicle with a lack of summary collaboration.

I will never understand what they are trying to do with the rear bumpers. Don't get me started on the flat black wheel well flares, the rear faux-safari windows that don't have any actual visibility up, and the uneven door handle levels. It's like an AI interpretation of the 5th gen.

TFL truck once took an outback out in Colorado on of the the trails, didn’t pass the harder side and just rolled backward.
Subaru blacklisted them for 11 YEARS LOL. Even went to Roman’s house and took the other fleet out of his garage, they knew his code!!

The tires that come on the SR5s also look comically small.

I think it was mentioned that SR5s come with narrower tire than 5th gen SR5s.

If it improves mpg then I guess it's worth it, with the gas tank being 4 gallons smaller than 2024s.

I think so, too. I'm thinking it's because the black fender flare exaggerates the wheel opening. At a quick glance, it looks like a huge opening and a small wheel/tire.

The LC body is way better looking. The factory wheels, though... they've gotta go.

I am willing to overlook the manual driver seat as a trade to keep the SR5 price increase to a minimum, but the OR starting at 50k with manual seats is chuckle worthy

I have a neighbor that bought a new Limited because it was the only model that was equivilent to his SR5 Premium 5th generation model. He was like a lot of people complaining about the hard plastic inside the new models and the limited was the only one that was not hard plastic. So far he likes his but he also said it's because he bought it for his business and can write it off. Otherwise, he'd never have gotten rid of his 5th gen.

It’s crazy that we have to upgrade and pay a huge premium to get the same things as before. It’s Toyotas version of shrinkflation.

That's only an issue for those who owned prior gen 4Rs. For the buyers who are brand new to the platform this is the new normal.

True. I guess Toyota doesn’t care about brand loyalty anymore.

I still own, daily drive, and love my 4th gen and really miss the soft close rear gate. They got rid of that and the fancy digital climate control stuff across all models. The 5th gen got basic climate stuff and only the Limited model got the fancy digital climate control.

The manual seats are silly but the Tundra also did the same. The TRD Sport Tundra with all the fancy body cladding and color matched everything and sport tuned suspension and big wheels..... Only came with cloth manual seats. No power option. (this was in the past maybe a new TRD Sport premium is available with power now in the turd gen)
