    Hey guys

    I am having surgery Monday and will be laid up for a while. I’m trying to get everything done to the rig now. I have a 2022 with 38k miles. I can’t jack the vehicle or take the tire off because of my shoulder injury. I do have a buddy I trust to change my brakes if needed but was just wondering when people were doing their first brake job. Thank you for any replies

    Toyota 4Runner brake pads usually last between 30,000 and 70,000 miles. Rotors often replaced same time as pads for maximum pad life. Toyota rotors are said to live approx 80,000 miles

    2018 SR5 with 102K miles. Still on original pads. Keep an eye on them every time I rotate tires.

    I drive approximately 80-85% highway miles and am a very light braker.:)

    I bought some Akebono pads and Centric rotors feeling I will eventually need to

    replace them. That was 2 years ago.

    Replaced rear brakes on my 2019 at 92k miles. Fronts are due shortly. At around 115 k on those right now.

    Wow. Thank you everyone for the replies. I do all the work myself and would hate for them to start squeaking and I wouldn’t be able to fix them. I saw one person recommended akebono pads. I came from owning a 4R from Honda Pilot. Akebono was all I put on my Hondas and loved them. I am from the school of swapping rotors and pads at the same time. On the Pilot I always used the Bosch rotors and loved this as well. I only have 3k miles on my oil but I’m planning on changing the oil this week. With shoulder surgery I don’t know when I’ll be able to do it next.

    Amen. Sounds like you know how to do brakes. I do all of that as well. Relube the pins. It takes me about an hour a side. Not because I’m stupid but because I clean everything up and grind any rust off. The wife may disagree about the stupid part

    I sold my 2016 with 110k miles and still had at least 30% pad life left. My 2020 had 75% at 40k miles.

    Thank you. The surgeon said the surgery is really easy. It’s the recovery part that sucks. I already am signed up for physical therapy 3x a week for the first month.

    My rears lasted around 45k miles before hitting the squealers. The fronts still had some life but Input on new pads anyway. I’ve been through muddy water on more than one ocassion. I’m not a super light braker, but generally take it as easy as I can on brakes.
    Toyota OE replacement pads are akebonos. They have two lines of OE pads apparently. Factory replacement, and just replacement versions. I asked for factory replacements, but ended up getting the cheaper versions (metal backing is stamped akebono) because I didint check the part number. They do fine however.

    Best of luck. I mainly work cardiac rehab but did ortho for several years. shoulders tend to take a while but stick with the program and you'll likely do well. about the truck, my 2019 has 75k on the odometer with the original brakes and Im just about at mininums, planning to do them in the next 2-3 weeks.

    Mt last set of pads lasted 80k when I changed them (could have gone further), but yours could be different. Driving style and type are big variables. I do a lot of highway miles, so I may go miles at a time without touching the brakes.

    I also changed my front calipers when I did pads, one was seized and I couldn't get the pins out of the other. I'm thinking calipers are probably part of the front brake job the second time around (this was at 155k).

    Over 200k on my Tacoma, no worries with synthetic oil if I let it go longer. I've had a few Blackstone analysis done all good. Oh and i always use the cheapest synthetic I can find.

    I'm at 67k, been looking to do my brakes as well, been hearing some squeals when cold, but eventually goes away. I bought the 4R used, with 46k on it. I'll be doing both pads and rotors.

    i'm currently at 52k, just a couple days ago i noticed a soft squealing noise while braking very lightly leaving the parking garage from work.. also, i hear when braking in reverse.. i guess it is time for me, smh.. or perhaps low brake fluid?!?

    Yep, sounds like it’s time for pads. Your mileage is about par for the course.

    Low brake fluid won’t cause noise. Unless it’s low enough to suck air, and in that case the only sound you’ll hear is you screaming expletives when the pedal goes to the floor. ;):D

    First OEM pads went 65k all the way around. Replacement rear pads only went 30k and front pads are still good, so the fronts should make the 60k mark again.

    I do a lot of back roads and the hills of WV for my off-roading trips.
