In the process of adding sound deadening to the rear door, and I found this black box in the driver side rear door. It’s covered in some black goo and appears to have an antenna on it.

This is a 2016 limited. Anyone know what it serves?

Looks a little aftermarket. I would think if it’s a receiver, it would have wiring going to whatever it’s controlling in the car. But it looks like that doesn’t have any wires coming off it. So that makes me think it’s a tracker (since not being connected to the car means it’s not transmitting anything about the car, just where it is).

Unless it’s like a bluetooth thing where it controls an accessory via bluetooth signal after receiving a command from a remote. If it’s not actually connected physically to anything, Id take it off and peel back the mastic to see what the box says.

The Vapor barrier on the door was untouched.
If it was aftermarket one would be able to tell that the barrier was opened and put back..

Could it be something with the keyless entry?

Remove it and peel the goo off it. Hard to tell from those pics.

    Are you the original owner?

You can peel back the vapor barrier and reinstall it and no one would notice a difference.
