Alright, let's be honest; who here is considering a 6th gen?

Huh, from a glance the GX looks like a 5th gen Limited or Sport

That’s probably why I like it. The new GX looks more like the old 5th Gen. If memory serves me correctly it has the V6 but that is the same one the Tundra has with all the issues?

Of all the recently released TNGA-F vehicles, I agree, the GX550 looks the best.

They are not the same engine, they are of the same engine family though. There are 3 variants of that engine i believe and the Tundra is the one with the problems.

The Lexus variant supposedly eats timing chains.
I believe the only difference between the V35A in the Lexus is smaller turbos. I think it’s still called the V35A Type ‘21 though.

Sudobash/notryan/pseudoryan (whatever you want to call him. Oh and I owe Breathing Borla on tundras.com a beer now) over on tundras.com would have the more correct info.

The gx engine has the same problems. As does the LS the v6 launched in.

You know in all honesty I know it’s not the same vehicle but I’ve been eyeing the new 2.7 liter V6 in the new Ford Ranger. Obviously it’s a pickup and does not suit everyone’s needs but so far it appears they worked the bugs out of that engine in the F150 days.

There is something about the V6 sounding more refined that I like. Even though the 2.7 Ford V6 is turbo it sounds so much more refined at idle instead of the clunky turbo 4 cylinders. These new 4 cyl turbo engines sound worse than my Dads 1980s Ford Escort.

Yes, i mentioned that earlier in this thread
The new 4R and LandCruiser sound like a 1998 Hyundai at best and a ticking/clattering 22RE at worst at idle

I've seen a few of the new GX's on the road, and they look really good!

Today I saw a white SR5 6th gen 4Runner, and I thought it looked better in person than the pictures. I'm still not running out to buy one, though.

All I got is to check if it has the wet oil pump belt that the F-150 2.7 has.

It’s reliable so far unlike the 1.0’s, but it’s a wear item that didn’t exist before and requires non-trivial tear down work to get at and replace periodically but if you’re only going to have it for a decade and 100k miles then it’s a non-issue.

Stock, but looking to mod a few things.
I had an '08 4th gen 4Runner SR5 4x4 that I loved, loved, loved. I tried very hard to love a 6th gen, which I had been waiting for. But honestly, the SR5s were really noisy, the 4cyl in all models seemed underwhelming, and I hated the way the seats folded up - so inefficient. I knew the new body style would settle in with me (as all new body styles eventually do), but I just found them very pricey and underwhelming. Perhaps as things evolve....

I did replace my '08 4th gen with a 2024 5th gen TRD Off Road with only 4700 miles on it. I was hesitant on the 5th gens because of MPG, but have found that around town it gets the same as my old 4th gen, and can even do 20 - 24 MPG easily on local highway trips. It's a much more solid ride than either the 4th gen or 6th gens I drove, and has more room on the inside. I have really grown to like it as I drive it more.

I did really like the Land Cruisers, but pricey and WTF with the refrigerated box in the center console on up-scale models. I bought the 5th gen because I knew it was solid, perhaps even a GOAT, and that it would hold its price and value over time. Maybe next time I'll trade it in for a Land Cruiser once things get sorted out. But at least this year, I'm not a 6th gen fan.

My 2019 TRD Premium has 135k on it and drives like new, no rattles, no issues. I want to at least put another 200k on it before I even think about looking at other vehicles. My wife has a 2012 GX 460 has 155k on it, and it drives like new. She has no plans at all on a new Lexus until that one hits 250k. Besides a LX or Land Cruiser, I think the GX and the 5th gen are Toyotas best made models. When my 19 wears out, I don’t know what I’ll do. Hopefully when that time comes, I can find some ole lady’s 200 series Land Cruiser with low miles, and grab one of those. I can’t stand all the new stuff. I’m just getting old and grouchy.
    Get off my lawn!!

Something I noticed 5th gen vs 6th gen. The 5th gen start button is below the level of the windshield wiper stalk. In the 6th gen the start button is a lot higher, so it's easy to bump the wiper stalk as you raise your hand to push the start button. I could see myself breaking the stalk.

Just came across a TSB for Tacoma gas & Hybrid 8 speed transmission problems. Its doesn't say anything about 4Runner and Land cruiser though.

Another reason to not buy the first few model years of new design vehicles.

Sometimes y’all jump at anything. That TSB affected a few of the first MY tacomas and was quickly rectified. Likely before they made their way into the 4Runner and Land Cruiser. Land Cruiser has a higher chance of being affected than the 4Runner. The 4Runner launched after the problem was identified if I remember correctly. So likely unaffected.

I was at the dealer today to get some oil filter cartridges and checked out what they had on the lot. They had two 6th gen’s. A sport and off road. Both had the temporary full size spare. I can’t believe how small the rear leg room is. That is insane for how big the vehicle is on the outside. Deal breaker.

Go to a mazda dealer and check out the rear seat of a CX70 or CX90. It’s like a limo in comparison. And comes with an inline 6.

I checked out some of the other vehicles the dealer had too. The Landcruiser has the same cramped space. The pathfinder and palisades have more legroom and nicer center console layouts. The Highlander and grand highlander are decent too. Even a Camry has more legroom than the 4Runner and LC. The RAV4 probably does too. WTF.

Yeah. It’s bizarre. I test drove a CX70 today and checked out the rear seating. It’s pure luxury in comparison to a 6G 4 Runner.

I haven't checked one out myself yet, but I keep hearing about the crummy rear seats. Seems like a huge fuck-up by Toyota.

The rear seats were one of the factors that led me back to a 4Runner after my Tacoma.

Unfortunately it seems like the new Tacoma’s rear leg room is smaller than the previous gen’s too.

Sounds like the whole body was designed around the floor mounted hybrid battery and that pushed the rear seat hard points forward? Otherwise it makes no sense how it can simultaneously gain wheelbase and lose rear leg space.

Interesting you found the legroom to be the same in the 2nd row for LC and 4Runner. Though I haven’t measured, so not scientific, but when I put the drivers seat in my seating position for the LC it seemed to have more legroom than my 5th gen.

As for the 4Runner, legroom definitely shrunk. I think they moved the 2nd row up as the cargo space seems a bit deeper compared to the 5G. But again, haven’t measured.
