    47k original miles
Last week I decided to stop by my local mechanic and finally ask about the red 2nd gen with the rear window down. I offered to put it back up for him, since I know the jumper trick concerning the rear wiper (which kicked my butt with my OLD 2nd gen). he was like, that old thing? Just take it! the guy abandoned it years ago, and its been sitting ever since. my eyes lit up when I realized it had 47k on the clock, and a couple previous service records confirmed it! I'll add pics when I get home, but its currently being towed to my house, and I cant wait to crack it open and see what it looks like in all its glory!

Nice job. I love hearing stories like this. She looks amazing. I saw you have another post about the battery. A little investment and you have a great 4R. Nice job

    Welp
Its a v6, those known for head gasket issues.
Wonder if the Toyota recall TSB is still open for head gasket repairs on those things, i think i heard of someone getting one done a few years back.
Pretty sure it was the cross-over pipe from the passengers exhaust manifold that wrapped around behind the heads that got the head so hot it boiled the water and popped the head gasket. If its just a drive-around toy you may never get the exaust hot enough to have a problem but for towing and high loads, i would certainly try to keep it cool.
I love that year body style, i had about 7 or 8 89-95 pickups and love the body lines and styling. I still own a 93 pickup now and still love to drive them. Its crazy you snagged that thing with no miles on it, thats really nuts. Does the interior still look new? Those seats were so comfortable i used to put them in my pickup trucks to replace the bench seat.

    We still need moar pix.

ALSO, a little story on WHY it was at an auto repair shop and WHY it was abandoned and left for years. Whats the back story on the problem it had at 47,000 miles on the ticker... Head gaskets?

He said he couldn't get power to the dash, and when he tried to contact the owner to dive deeper into it, he didnt answer his phone. The mechanic never heard from him again.

I had to rewire an 89 once on a road trip after the battery shorted out and melted nearly the entire wiring harness. Hours from home at 8:00 at night a quick walk to an orileys that was still open I was able to buy nearly everything to rewire it to get it going. I think I had to walk to a Walmart late like 11-12 but I’m pretty sure I had rewired most everything that required it to run a little after midnight. I was able to drive it home and fix it better at home. I had to manually blink the blinker stalk for blinkers. But I literally rewired everything in a few hours, Meaning I don’t think you should have a terrible time if you’ll get a chiltons manual with wiring diagrams.

Damn. That’s quite the repair job. Be proud at that accomplishment.

One-at-this-price stripper. Bought new 35 yrs ago, a $13K leftover. Added Detroit TruTrac, 1”rear spring spacer and “pinstripes”… Factory AC kit and roof rack bought at dealer cost at time of purchase, still blows ice cold 35yrs later. 2022 AG ORP all stock.
    Manual or auto?

On the 3VZ-E engines, the driver's side head gasket almost always would fail around the number six cylinder at the back where the exhaust crossover meets the down pipe. The passenger's side head gasket in comparison never fails.
