I have a 2006 4Runner Sport. After 19 years the driver's seat covers are starting to shred and they look bad. The OEM covers are unobtanium since Toyota no longer manufactures or stocks these parts. So, it's off to the aftermarket I go.

I thought I'd found the solution with Ridies.com but my seats have the side air bags and their seat covers do not have the reinforced slits in the side necessary to allow for proper function of the air bags in a deployment. So, I must continue my search.

What I want are covers that fully REPLACE the OEM covers. In other words, the auto upholstery trim shop must fully remove the original covers and install the aftermarket replacements in their place - so that the new covers are PERMANENTLY attached to the seat frame with hog rings.

I am NOT interested in the usual El Cheapo, quick-and-dirty style seat covers that just slide over the original seat fabric and then get cinched down with ties and straps. I want a more rigid and permanent solution that won't shift or move around or wrinkle and pucker and look like hell and I'm willing to spend a bit more for proper replacements that get installed once and stay put until they wear out.

Can anyone here recommend some possible vendors? I wanted cloth, but can do leather if that is all that is available. I prefer to be able to get two-tone colors to match the old trim as closely as I can. But whatever I get, it MUST work with the airbags.

My parents, before i bought the 4runner had an upholstery shop just replaced the bottom seat leather like not with a "kit". The color matches almost perfectly and i recall them saying it wasn't like outrageously expensive. Could just have an upholstery shop replace/repair them for you.

They are going to try to find the name of the shop but said it is in the Kearny Mesa area. This was a few years ago they had the bottom seat cushions redone, and they are old, so memory isn't their strong suit.

    Just a couple
I bought a seat upholstry replacement on Amazon and installed myself...it's worth a good set of hog ring pliers and new hog rings, and those can be acquired at ACE hardware for less than one could imagine. Here's what I bought: https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B07Q17613S?ref=ppx_pop_mob_b_asin_title

The wrinkles have smoothed out to near factory and I'm surprised that this actually is more comfortable than my OEM! Easier than you think and use YT to get it knocked out...took about 1.5 hours from start to finish! I'm more than happy with the results! I bought a similar one for my 2014 tundra and dis the same for tge driver's seat...perfect color match, too!
